Pure Prairie League Returns

Post by Jahfin »

Thanks to XM's X-Country channel I recently learned Pure Prairie League have just released a new album. Not all of the original members are back but Craig Fuller is one of them. It's also reassuring to read on their website that the newest incarnation of the group is returning to the sound of their early records which means lots of pedal steel and no sax. In their latter years when Vince Gill came on board their sound was virtually unrecognizable from early Pure Prairie League. Unfortunately Michael Connor who joined the group prior to Bustin' Out (the album that featured "Amie") being released, passed away in 2004.

99.5 The Mountain - in Denver still plays a lot of their music. I'm looking forward to hearing the new stuff.

Thanks for the link. I'll definitely check that out but for whatever reason they're not part of the current lineup.

I saw PPL in concert in 1975. They opened for Dave Loggins whose "Please Come to Boston" was on the charts at the time. The League did a much better show. 8)

From what I've read I don't think there is any, nor are there any connections to Loggins & Messina or The Eagles; at least personel-wise. The only similarity I see is that like Poco, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Commander Cody, the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Byrds, they were among the first to successfully merge country with rock. There are connections to Gill, Little Feat and David Bowie though.
