That's why I like Seattles Best....
I walk in the door..and there may be 4 people in front of me...and I hear "Hey Miss Connie!"
and then....she turns to the new person of the day and says...Tall, Dark, room for cream.
Personal service goes a long way...

The reason I support small businesses is for that extra attention. I call it the "Cheers" mentality...you like to go where people know your name. That was the best bit of advice I gave to my best friends when they opened their store: get to know your customers by name. It has served them well, business is booming and people rave to me all the time about how great they are, including those who don't know I have a personal connection to the store.
As for Starbucks, IIRC they do (or at least did) provide benefits for their employees, even the part time ones. I doubt too many similar type businesses do that. Unfortunately out here, you could stand on any corner and throw one of Shannon's rocks in any direction and hit a Starbucks. Oftentimes there are two in the same dang shopping center. And turnover is high in all of them, as is incompetence. I used to love getting mochas, but they were so inconsistent in flavor that I finally gave up. My new fave is a grande nonfat extra hot vanilla latte...they haven't screwed that one up yet except when they have given me just a regular latte. I use the drive thru one on my way to work and have been given the wrong order several times, so now I check before I leave. Can't fault their friendliness though.
Mal, out here they use names when it is crowded and they have several similar orders. It helps to have an unusual name like Mallory rather than Kathy.
Maybe I should start saying "BEG".

I already have a name...it was actually the name I picked out for my "Spub"--a combo speech clinic and pub. I figured I'd have a neverending clientle.

In midtown Manhattan I think we have a Starbucks, Au Ban Pain and Duane Reade drug store on every block.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Just showin' some love to my sista!sunseeker wrote:tee hee hee..."Shannon's rocks" ......LOL.....gosh I love you guys.....![]()

I would bet there is NO place in metro areas of FL you can pay gas with a check....
you can still write checks at most of the Fast food places here..

Kewl you got good service. Personally from what I have heard most are overated and over priced. If you don't mind paying the price of their coffee and the wait, when you walk into one of their shops, then more power to you. I consider Starbucks to be a status symbol and not much more. ( If you get it for free then that is GREAT!
)
Anyone remember what Starbucks wanted to charge the Emergency Responders for the much needed bottles of water? I am sure that some people do.... If I remember correctly some paramedics or other EMS personnel chipped in to buy the much needed water.......at $4.00 for a cup of coffee and they could not let the workers have the water? Support them?
Perhaps Starbucks is still trying to get over that image and story. Still at $4.00 for a cup of coffee...but if that is what you want, and you like it....it is your money to do as you please. More power to you and enjoy it. It keeps you warm and wakes you up.

It's funny you mention that. They have a really cool commercial I like now. It kinda plays on the whole smile thing. Pretty sharp lookin, actually.Wino you know wrote:You mean like Wal Mart?OceanCityGirl wrote:I love starbucks. People hate them because they're succesful and everywhere. There's a reason for that.

I hate them because my cup of regular coffe costs $2. That's too much for a regular cup of joe.OceanCityGirl wrote:I love starbucks. People hate them because they're succesful and everywhere. There's a reason for that.

I admit I am a coffee snob - I love Starbucks if I'm getting a mocha latte or something freshly made; but if I want a regular cup of java, I'd prefer to get it from Dunkin Donuts or Seattle's Best, even Peets - because I find that at <most> Starbucks, they leave the coffee in the carafe and don't brew fresh for hours at a time - and that is definitely a waste of $2.
But I definitely do like the personalization you get at Starbucks!
