Chart Room Bar

Its located inside the Pier House Resort at the end of Duval. The resort was actually built around it.

from what we were told on a walking tour, when the pier house was built, the locals woulnd't let them tear the bar down. so they just built around it. had a blast there.

I'm sure it was better back when Phil Clark was behind the bar! Legend says thats where the local politicians hung out and cut their deals. Building a resort around it kind of killed the vibe I'm sure.

It is also the focal point of a number of early Buffett songs...A Pirate Looks at 40, Nautical Wheelers and I think maybe even Woman Going Crazy.

It was more about a picture of the blonde in the center of the frame than the bar, wasn't it?

Like most places in KW, it's nothing like it was back in the 70's. It was a great place then, as was Mallory square before the developers and modern day pirates got there.

The Chart Room is definitely in my top 3 favorite bars in Key West. Gotta love a place that allows people to be buried in "ash holes" drilled in the bar. This was also wear Jimmy met his wife Jane. Many of the locals including the commanders of the "Conch Republic Army" have already reserved their final resting place in the bar!! The Chart Room has sort of become the symbolic meeting place for a group of us that go to KW once a year.

Chart Room bar is one of the stops on the Trails of Margaritaville tour/
