GARY MOORE To Release New Studio Album In May - Feb. 28, 2006

Legendary guitarist GARY MOORE will release his new studio album, "Old New Ballads Blues", on May 2 via Eagle Records (April 24 in the U.K.). The CD features five new original songs, including the uptempo "Ain't Nobody", the poignant ballad "Gonna Rain Today", the country-influenced "No Reason to Cry" and the driving instrumental "Cut it Out". Also included are re-recorded versions of the classic "Midnight Blues", which originally appeared on Gary's multi-million selling 1990 album "Still Got The Blues"; OTIS RUSH's "All Your Love", which was the song that turned Gary onto the blues when he first heard it on the BLUESBREAKERS' "Beano" album in 1966; and blistering covers of WILLIE DIXON's "You Know My Love" and ELMORE JAMES's "Done Somebody Wrong".

As previously reported, Gary Moore is featured on the forthcoming DVD "Gary Moore and Friends, One Night in Dublin, A Tribute to Phil Lynott", due in Europe on March 27 via Eagle Vision. The DVD features the set as played by Gary and special guests as part of the tribute concert "The Boy Is Back in Town" at the Point Theatre in Dublin in August 2005.

I'm glad to see Gary Moore has recovered enough to record again. I know that there for a while he was fairly ill and wasn't recording or touring. I believe that he is often overlooked because of his lack of commerical success. If you get the chance to see him play live, make the effort, he is truly a great guitarist.

The tribute to Phil Lynott is something that fans of Thin Lizzy will want to get since many of the musicians are former members of the band. I was lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy perform outside of Dublin in the late 70's and was hooked.

WooHoo! Love Gary Moore!

I was about 17 when I saw him back in the '80's, at a small venue here in Portland, Oregon. I was small enough that I could squeeze myself under everyone's arms and got right up to the stage, right at Gary's feet. I'd jump up on stage whenever he'd change picks, so I have a couple of his used picks.

Oh, and the best part for a teenage heavy metal chick: at one point, a little chunk of spittle flew out of his mouth and landed on my cheek (face...). That was so cool! All my guy friends were so jealous!

He was ill? With what? I did a quick scroll through his "official" website and it looked like he's been pretty busy the past couple years and I couldn't find any info on his illness. Course, I didn't really search too terribly hard; figured I'd just ask you. :D

I am very glad that he's doing well now. Looks like he's teaming up with BB King for a summertime UK tour. Maybe he'll trip across the pond and do a quick tour here too!
