How about SERVICE FEES!!!

If I'm going to complain, it isn't about the price of the ticket, like someone else said, if you can't afford it. . . don't buy it. But on the other hand I resent the hell out of how high the "service fees" have become. Why the hell should it cost me a $12-15 fee (plus shipping!!!) to buy a ticket that is already $80.00 to $200.00 dollars. It's out of control! Ticketmaster and other such companies should be outlawed!!! A "service fee" for a silly piece of paper should have a "value cap" at no more that 5% of the ticket price and should actually provide a service. . . like shipping!!!

While I hate them too, I don't feel like I am being raped by the fees. Think about the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes to establish, run, and maintain the technology aspect of ticketmaster and buying tickets online. For all you technology people, you know as well as I do that having an IT infrasture necessary to handle the vast amount of inquiries at once to ticketmaster.com is VERY costly. gotta pay for that somehow.

You lease most of the stuff anyway. It's a tax writeoff. That's what I do in my business. It just lowers your tax bill.

Oh come on....This is not one concert or just Jimmy Buffett concerts.... They are bending people over and ramming it in with no lube.
They got into the business of selling tickets. The tickets have a face value price...All I see is a "quasi" legalized form of scalping. And what brought it about is people that are willing to pay "any price" to get a ticket. Eventually it reaches a point where one has to say "That is too much....I can do without it....." if everyone did that ( which they won't) the scalpers would go out of business, but unfortunately there is always someone out there that deals with them and I am not talking about just JB concerts.
Some places add on parking fees and X ammount to go to this charity or whatever. Does anyone know if the money ever gets there?
Pardon me whie I find that repprehensible and some what shady and dishonest.

So what you’re saying is if you buy the ticket on line and print it out yourself at home, bypassing all possible forms of human interaction and higher cost, we get to pay for that “service.” How can I get into the “service” industry?

What gets me is when they call it a convinience fee. Don't try and make it sound nice, call it was it is, a service fee.

It's not even a service fee. A service fee would be something that provided a service. The only service that they provide is taking an extra 10-20% upcharge for my already expensive ticket.
I understand what you were saying about IT fees and infrastructure, however if you take an average size crowd at an average size venue, let's say 30,000 people, times that by $12-15 dollars. . . hold on one second, that is too big of a figure to be done in my head, let me pull up my handy windows calculator to tell you that is $360,000-$450,000.00 for one single show and they are usually handling 100's of events at once. Granted, that is some extra work, but once again using a nice round figure of 100 shows a month (and a very conservative figure at that) are you trying to tell me that Ticketmaster has an overhead anywhere near the $36-45 million gross that they just took in?!?!?!
I'm sorry!!! That is BS!!!! It costs them maybe one-tenth of that figure. . . if that!!!
While the majority of businesses in America (outside of oil, street drugs and tickets) work on a 30%-70 per cent mark up. I find it absolutely criminal that these guys can be seeing 1000+ percentage profit margins. Once again, I'm sorry if you feel the need to defend them.
I think their execs need to spend time in a dark cell with a big black man named "Bubba" at their choice of any State "Hotel" to get an idea of how the average Ticketmaster customer feels after a transaction.

I suppose the only way to look at it is this... If you don't like it, then don't buy it!!! As long as us ticket buyers are willing to buy, then they will keep ramming it in our rears...

Like it or not.... ticket master has to pay their employees.... and they are a for profit company last time I looked.... its just a part of life pholks....!

So much for the "electronic age" lowering costs. Same smoke blown up our butts about music distribution.
