Here you can discuss any other artist including Sunny Jim, Todd Snider, Jerry Jeff Walker, Steve Goodman, James Taylor, Alan Jackson, Bob Marley, Kenny Chesney and others
Last night I had the opportunity to catch Willie Nelson's concert @ the Florida Strawberry Festival... as I have mentioned, this festival is known for having 10 days of top artists (usually country) at rediculous prices.... $15!!!I am skipping Big and Rich on Sunday... no matter how cheap!!!
Willie played for 1hr and 45 minutes to a sold out crowd of 10k... plus the 2500 free seats they open up to general admission.....outdoors on festival grounds....
Mr. Top leaned over during one of the several SYKBH numbers Willie must do and said... " Wonder why Jimmy and Willie havent hooked up...." We laughed because with that, Willie broke into Hey Good Lookin'!!!
But it got me to thinking that Jimmy and Willie are similar in many ways... both have great song writing abilities... both have a dedicated fan base (I didnt know there were that many men with braids ... both are just a little left of center... and both are still kicking after 30+++ years in the biz....
But I just cannot see them in a duet.... what is your take?

Willie has cut duets with nearly everyone at this point so I wouldn't rule out a collaboration with Buffett. He would have been right at home on License To Chill. Much better than the likes of Cheesney and Toby Keith anyway. Good to hear Buffett is working with Will Kimbrough for his next album, that's a sign that he's at least headed in the right direction. I liked License To Chill but it could have been a whole lot better in some respects, particularly the aforementioned duet partners. Willie, Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, etc. would have been much better.

btw--we are going to see Willie March 18th in Austin.
Can't wait!
It was typical Willie...laid back... the man just gets up and sings... you arent even sure when he is done!!! LOL
That's Willie!
I'm listening to him now.
Getting ready to burn a Willie and JJW cd of easy listening songs for the kiddies to nap by
Just trying to broaden their musical interests.

Willie's manager was pimping his CDs...he is releasing 6 this year.... amazing!
Also..had his sons playing with him...one seems to be a blues type of singer/guitarist and the other is percussion.....
My dad and step-mom saw Willie about 2 years ago at Red Rocks and said he only sings about 1/3 of the words to the songs and they weren't really impressed with how he performed. Also, keep in mind, they are also huge fans of Celine Dion, Anne Murray, and Neil Diamond.
Maybe he was just having an off-nite.
I grew up listening to Willie Nelson.
I agree, I'm not sure a duet would really sound all that great w/ Jimmy and Willie, but seeing them play a gig together would be kinda nifty.

One of which will be produced by none other than Ryan Adams (see photo below). Hopefully it will be an improvement over the godawful Countryman that he released last year.
More photos from the Willie/Ryan sessions can be seen at Ryan's pedal player Jon Graboff's site here:

Must have been..... as he nailed all the words ...well as least the ones I knew..But hubby is a big fan and thought he did a great job.....
I hope it was just a fluke, 'cause I'd love to see Willie some time, but I wouldn't want to go if he was all washed up and stuff. I think I remember Willie having some health problems around that time too, so it might have been related to that. Or, I could be imagining things, which occasionally happens as well.

Yeah. Must be an on-and-off kind of thing. I'm glad you enjoyed the show, though, sounds like an awesome setting.
It's hard for me to even fathom outdoor shows in March, living in Colorado!
I've been a fan of Willie Nelson's since the early 70s but never got to see him in concert until a couple of years ago. While he did forget a few lines and his act bordered on being "Branson-esque" a time or three, it was well worth the wait. By the way, he did "Hey Good Lookin'" that night too.

I also saw Willie last spring in a show where, to me, he seemed to be way off! It was an outdoor venue and the other folks sure didn't seem to care what Willie sounded like.
He did nail the other show I saw him do last year indoors.
What a trooper he is. He has to be getting REALLY tired, but always seems to be enjoying himself.
And in defense of Willie for that show, he just seemed to be singing to a different beat than the band. It seemed like he was trying to do different things with his songs...like, maybe a reggae beat since that album was out.
Heck, maybe he was bored, so he just tried to change the songs up some. It sounded like the people couldn't sing along with him. Maybe something was just wrong with the sound system.
Only bad Willie show I have ever seen, not that I have seen THAT many.

I had seen one too many specials on TV where Willie played the same ol' songs and horrible medleys that began to turn me off to him after a while. Still, that didn't stop me from seeing him in concert. Willie is one of the last of his kind left, by all means see him while you still can.

That's one reason we are going---never know when it will be the last chance.
