Mr OC has two grown sons from a previous marriage. They are 24 and 27. Neither went to college, both have had children for more then a few years. His divorce decree did not specify that they needed to be emancipated at 18 for child support The payments stopped at 18. Then their mother who is mentally unstable and hasn't had the children living with her since they were 13 re-opened a child support case when the children were 20 and 23. We've filed papers, but she has moved around alot and there are alot of municipalities involved.
Finally we got a court date and have everything in order. We sat in the court office and had them look over everything and said please tell me if all is ok before we leave.
The hearing is tomorrow we've both taken the day off from work. They call now to say that the postage (which they gave me the amount of) is off by 24cents. And nobody can pay the quarter, it can't be done via credit card. Somebody has to miss work during business hours. Neither of us works anywhere near Atlantic City, in fact in the opposite direction. We need to take a quarter over there. Then they'll schedule a date for another thirty days.

Also if you can send it MAKE SURE you ask for a signed receipt as well.SharkOnLand wrote:Instead of driving, can you just mail them a damn stamp? priority mail would get there in a day or 2, cost you about 4 bucks, and would save you a drive....
There is registered mail and certified mail... one cost more than the other and as for recieving it there is not that much difference other than the cost. Ask the person in the P.O. about it.
I don't know if you want to pay the extra cost or even how much it would cost but you might ask and see about next day service as well.
I would think it would be less expensive than driving there and back. But if you do mail it.. make sure you keep certified hard copies of it!! Should not be hard to do, most banks or the courthouse have a person ( or even your lawyer ) that can do it for you.

not enough time to mail it. If I want to be on the calendar for 31st I have to get it there before tomorrow. So I'm closer then mr oc and i'm bringing them their quarter.
It is being sent registered with receipt requested. It has to be sent from the court because we don't have the ex's address so they have to send it for us. We can't get her address but our address is all over the documents that are being sent out.
It's all crazy. She broke the law and we have to jump thru hoops to fix it. I'd love to know the case worker who opened up a child support case on kids who were 20 and 23 with no proof that they were atending school or residing with their mother. I have to give more proof every time I go to sign a document for my kids in college.
Spoke to the judge. He is familiar with the case and got all support orders suspended while they wait for this to go before him.
