Church group protests soldier's funerals

Not sure if this has already been posted...if so, I'm sorry.

I read on CNN that there's a group protesting soldier's funerals because they support a country that supports gays. When I saw that they came to a city close to me, my curiosity got the best of me and I googled the church's name. I came across their website, which I cannot repost. Google "Westboro Baptist Church", you'll see it. It takes alot to shock me. I am shocked. There is one good side to this. As you'll read in the CNN article, a group of bikers (mostly Harley riders) found out about the protests. They got a large group together to escort the families at the funerals. They drown out the protesters with their bikes. That's pretty cool.

Here's the CNN article:

Here's my email to Westboro Baptist Church:
"Subject: Good Job!

I would just like to explain that I was raised Catholic. I attended Catholic school all of my life. Grade school and High school. The teachings of God were tought to me everyday. You and people like you are THE reason I stopped going to church and abandoned organized religion. Good job!! Now I don't read the bible at all, I don't pay attention to one word a priest/preacher says. Way to go!! That's the way to spread the Word of God!"

I believe being American we have the right to protest.

HOWEVER this is a funeral, somone has lost their child, husband and father which makes this so very WRONG. Let the family mourn in peace, respect them and take your protesting sasses elsewhere!!!!

Yep no doubt they are scum.

They have been talked about before. That particular cult ( I don't consider them to be a church) is largely made of members from a certain family and from a very small community.

I am aware of legislation, that is either proposed or pending ( or it may already be passed ) in some states about banning protests at funerals.

There many different Motorcycle clubs that will do that with their Hawgs. Many of the clubs are made of and have a lot of vets, who don't suffer such fools lightly. They are big on supporting brother and sister vets and the families and keets of wounded, maimed, or KIA vets.

You don't need to be a rider to join the Patriot Guard - I joined and plan on helping out whenever there is one in Denver!

I'll be joining, too, and supporting the New England effort.

Very wise decision by Patriot Riders: they only attend as a group when invited by the family.

Already passed in Oklahoma (but that's one state where things probably would be taken care of anyway).
Daily Oklahoman wrote:Protesters a no-show at soldier's funeral

GUYMON (AP) - There were hundreds of relatives and friends, dozens of law enforcement officers and American flags, but no demonstrators at the funeral Tuesday of a soldier who was killed while fighting in Iraq.

Phelps and his family cult have been at this crud for years. You should have seen the things they said about New Orleans. :x

Nasty peices of work. I feel most sorry for their children that are being raised to think this is normal.

Southern Poverty Law Center has been keeping tabs on them for years....this is a chilling story that's been going on.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see pictures from a funeral yesterday in Colorado Springs. If you're a normal person, some will infuriate you and some will make you fiercely proud: http://www.patriotguard.org/Forums/tabi ... fault.aspx

If I went and supported a funeral, I might have a hard time remembering the "non-violent" part of the Patriot Riders credo.

I don't think logical thought is their stong suit.

Typical behavior for religious zealots.

Cheers.

Well I'm with you on the sentiment that people like that are what drove me away from organized religion.

What really grinds my gears is that these people are essentially spitting on the graves of soldiers who have fought and died to guarantee their right to protest in the first place. At least they could have the decency to show them some respect and find a different forum to voice their opinion, as screwed up as it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't this church the same group who said New Orleans got what it derved after Katrina and also when the Tsunami hit Asia called it god's cleansing of the siners. These people are freaks! Just like Pat Robertson. They should be ignored!

I would agree. The media should just blow them off, and they might go away. Bad publicity is still better than no publicity at all.
