JIMMY PLEASE START FANCLUB FOR TICKETS

Post by justinnycny »

Scalpers are having a field day on tickets since many Buffett fans are able and willing to spend big bucks to see him (yes even bigger than the higher price he is asking this year). It would be a big help if his strong fan base could get tickets through Buffett. I have gotten tickets directly from Prince's fan club and was never shut out of a show. Many others sell to fans first directly through their websites including Dave Matthews (a friend of Jimmy). I think we should start a petition or something to Jimmy to do this. He is a good businessman, he can charge a membership fee! I would pay to get my hands on tickets. I was shut out of some shows this year and moments later saw hundreds of tickets on Stub Hub.
What are your thoughts. Would love feedback.
By the way, I am a huge fan.. this is my first post but, I think this site is GREAT. So glad i found it (another Parrothead told me about it)
Proud Parrothead (and country fan) here in NYC.

Welcome to the site! Many Parrothead clubs DO get the opportunity to get tickets ahead of others.

Well, we're glad you found us!
In response to your comment, (in my opinion) that's part of what the Parrothead Clubs are for. I may be reading more into this than there is, but via the PHC's Jimmy makes tickets available to his fans who follow the credo of "party with a purpose."
Unrelated to your comment, I'm going to scoot this over to the Buffett Discussion forum, since it's not really about a tour date or rumored tour date. No worries

This is true, so look to join your local Parrothead Club, have a good time and "Party with a Purpose" and give back to your community while possibly earning tickets to your local concert - and attend the big events like Meeting of the Minds or Fins to the West and see what else there is out there that the ParrotHead nation has to offer - opportunities to see the Coral Reefers perform - other great bands - and if you are lucky - at Meeting of the Minds in Key West - Jimmy may show up and play for free to about 3500 of ya - not a bad venue.

U2 and The Rolling Stones have done this already... but for a price.

U2 charged $40 for their preferred club, and when the "special" pre-sale began, it was a nightmare.
Last year I opted for this, and ended up getting burned, along with many
fans after the system was swamped, and crashed their server.
The band were stand-up in their reaction, and even though I eventually got a ticket, they still refunded my sign-up fee. 8)

The Stones wanted $100 dollars(!!) for the "privilege" of their special pre-sales.
I passed.

Jimmy sets aside about 300 seats per venue. Those are split between the various clubs (who have been in existence longer than a year) within a certain range of the venue. For example: The Dallas show bloc was set aside for the Texas, OK, and AR clubs. members who are eligible for said tickets under the club rules (they vary from club to club) may purchase them thru their PHC. They technically are available prior to the sale online, but most clubs limit the # of tickets (as they are disbursed on a size basis based on the clubs' membership at a certain point in time.)

Joining a club does not ensure you get a ticket or two. They'll be happy to take your membership dues, but unless you actually participate in the club activities, you will probably end up shut out there too.

All of that said... Going the club route just to get tickets is a bad idea. They're more of a reward than an incentive.

But the club seats we have had aren't very good.

You would think club members would get better seats. :-?

That's exactly the idea. Since my club is alotted only a small number of tickets, only the most active members really have a shot at them. And that's a GOOD thing.

Crappy Idea.

The PHIP clubs in my area are full of idiots.
There should be no reason I should have to be part of a "fan club" to get tickets to a show, now if I was guarentted tickets in the first say 5 rows, yes then ok, but to wind up in the lawn with people who got them the day they went on sale, no thanks.

at least they aren't lawn seats... :D

but that said, yes, there could be a lot better way to make sure the tickets get distributed; and the number held back for the clubs could be higher; and they could be located close to the stage (because supposedly those seats right up front sell for the same face value as the ones at the back of the pavillion so it really doesn't matter who gets them as long as they are sold..)

I think you're missing the point, then. A PHC does not equal a fan club. Fan clubs don't spend hundreds of hours conducting service projects, and invest plenty of their own money to help others in countless ways. I'm sorry to hear your local clubs are full of idiots. Anyone who joins thinking they'll get tickets is misguided. The REASONS that most people I know who joing PHCs are the same: 1. They desire an outlet to serve their communities and 2. they want to hang out with other people who dig Buffet while conducting the first goal. Tickets are just icing on the cake. Have you read the PHIP charter lately? It's not a "fan club" guide, not by a long shot.

I didn't say that. I will say tho that I am sure that the section in front of the stage, filled the first 7-15 rows deep with members of the PHCs from the region would certainly be a pretty good reward for the hundreds of thousands of man-hours put in. Especially since they don't announce the location of the PHC bloc until after the others have been onsale to the public and brokers.

Couldn't have said it better. If all you want are tickets I would suggest the TM route As Ringling suggests.

And I might add that this year, things are particulary topsy turvy as far as how many tickets the clubs get, their seat locations, etc due to Bob Heffelfinger being hospitalized. He's the PHIP Membership Director and normally coordinates all that. My club still doesn't know how many tickets we will be alotted for a show that has been on sale since Saturday.

actually dear? I think the last couple years for the Cinci bloc, Mr. Heffelfinger appointed someone local (one of the PHC Presidents) to oversee the disbursement. That was where the number of tickets going to each club based on size formula came in. It might not have worked that way in other areas tho.

And Mr. Heffelfinger (or "The Pope" as he was called at one point Friday night in Live Bait) was down at Stars. He wasn't moving a 4.4 40 yard dash speed, but he was mobile, and that was good to see. :)

I was just joking around with the point you made.

And it is a point to ponder. If the tickets all cost the same, why not put PHC tickets closer to the front? They are not losing anymore money.

It makes you wonder though, the brokers have to make more money on seats that are closer to the stage.
