Django Walker's new CD
Django Walker (Jerry Jeff's son) has released his second CD. It is now available either at www.jerryjeff.com or http://www.djangowalker.com/
This is part of the press release:
Produced by Mark Bryan of Hootie and The Blowfish and was mixed by Nick Brophy who has worked with a large variety of musicians including the Rolling Stones, Keith Urban, Avril Lavigne and Everclear, "Six Trips" is getting lots of air play and is in the Top 10 on the Texas Music Chart.
Django states, “I am extremely excited about “Six Trips” and look forward to promoting it heavily out on the road. I worked extremely hard on this record and wanted to make sure that I put new material out that I was very proud of, not just some songs to keep my name out

The bolded text should be fair warning to all.springparrot wrote:Django Walker (Jerry Jeff's son) has released his second CD. It is now available either at www.jerryjeff.com or http://www.djangowalker.com/

As much as I love Jerry Jeff and hope the best for his son, the few cuts I've heard by him sound like warmed over Texas frat boy country. In other words: watered down Pat Green and/or Cory Morrow.

let me know when he plays here in houston and we will go see him!
I like Jerry Jeff and had high hopes for Django but I have no problem calling a spade a spade and so far, I haven't been impressed by what I've heard by him. I'll give his new CD a chance but if his first one is any indication then I probably won't like it very much. The frat country music is just not my thing.conched wrote:I like Django's first cd a bit. I buy a lot of music that ain't great, but I enjoy it for personal reasons. I think you do that too, Jah!

I have to agree with Jah....I am a huge Jerry Jeff fan, however Django just doesn't have his dad's vocals or sound. I cringe on Gonzo Stew when jerry Jeff is singing "The Cape" and Django comes in. If anyone wants to hear some great music from some very young Texas Songwriters, purchase the "Heartworn Highway" album.Jahfin wrote:I like Jerry Jeff and had high hopes for Django but I have no problem calling a spade a spade and so far, I haven't been impressed by what I've heard by him. I guess listening to Django has been more of a Texas thing. I hope that doesn't stop people from around the country appreciating his music.
Every live show I've seen him do with his band has been high energy and very enjoyable. He does a fun bunch of covers I enjoy too and is just a nice young man from what I've seen. I was just looking at photos on his web site and see he is doing the barefoot thing.
I'm hearing some softer moments in the samples of his songs on the new one.
Don't know if this photo will post or not.

I guess you're talking about TVZ, Rodney, Guy? etc.
I don't know anyone who had JJW's sound!!! Probably a good thing.jbfinscj wrote:

Awww, I really enjoy Django on The Cape and will never forget seeing how tentative he was on stage that first time.
Nope, he won't be the next Jerry Jeff!!!
I didn't really approach Django's music hoping he'd sound like his dad. Same with Townes' son, Marley's sons, etc. I was hoping for his own original vision. Instead, it sounds like he's on the Texas frat boy country bandwagon which is not my thing at all. When it comes to Texas music I'll take the Gourds, the Old 97s, Lyle Lovett, Slobberbone, etc. over that crap any day of the week.jbfinscj wrote:I have to agree with Jah....I am a huge Jerry Jeff fan, however Django just doesn't have his dad's vocals or sound. Speaking of Townes, No Depression is running a great deal now where if you subscribe, you get a copy of the new documentary about Townes called Be Here to Love Me. This is only available through print editions and not through the ND web site. After years of reading I finally broke down and subscribed the other day. Can't wait to see the DVD.
