Un-parrothead

I usually do not post on sites but felt I had no other way to vent my anger. I have not been to a Buffett concert in sometime, in fact one of the last concerts I attended was when my wife was 8 months pregant with our first child, don't worry I took her with me! But with work and kids and shcws selling out so quickly we haven't been back. This year though the stars aligned and we could attend the June Charlotte show. Of course I was at work so my wife went to stand in line to buy our tickets. This show was going to be great, because our little parkeets were coming with us. My daughter 7yrs old and the biggest littlest parrothead you have ever seen my 4 YEAR OLD SON! Now my wife is the sweetest person you would ever want to meet, she unfortunately sees no wrong in anyone. After she stood in line for three hours she could only get 2 tickets, two less than we needed to get our kids to their first show. So she posted looking for tickets, and some jerk from Chicago called and offered to sell two tickets that he bought, and because of his snubbing wife she refused to have lawn seats and wanted reserved. All he wanted was to get his money back. She fell for it, hooked line and sinker. He gave her the line of how he was happy to help little parrotheads out, and all this other jazz. She thought he was legit, the tickets would come C.O.D. All she needed to do was go to Western Union deposit the money and give the receipt to the Fed-Ex when the tickets came and the money would be sent to him for tickets. She went for it. Two days later, no tickets, a fake FED-EX tracking number and a disconnect telephone number. So hopefully Mr. Kyle Weed (this is what his ID had on it when he took my kids money at Western Union) I hope you read this looking for your next victim, and I hope you enjoy the money that my wife and I worked hard for. I may not know who you are, or where you are, but GOD does. He knows you, and he watching. Your day will come.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. That's actually a pretty known scam, and unfortunatly, you have no recourse that I know of... There's actually a discussion thread that talks about the scam in quite detail, as apparently several have bumped into it this year....

http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46214

Best place for tix I've found to be ebay or the brokers. It's pretty unfortunate either way, as you won't be able to get them at face value... You may want to check out the ticket exchange here as well.

Sorry your first visit here is on such a sour note bowles96. :(

You'll find that this is one place where venting is a requirement,
most are glad to listen.

It's too bad this world is filled with crooks and cheats. I
hope you can still find tickets for your keets.

Your right, what goes around, comes around! He will get his one
way or another.

Welcome to BN though!! :D

I totally agree...louse :x
I swear if I happen to run into a couple of extra tickets, I will PM you. So sorry for your parakeets. Maybe this story will have a happy ending after all.

Sorry to hear that. It's horrible whenever anyone gets taken advantage of. In the future, I wouldn't trust anyone who requires a Western Union money transfer. That's automatically a red flag for me.

Keep your head up and I'm sure between now and June, someone here will be able to help you get tickets for your 'keets. :)

This is a definite!!! (or the State Attorney's office) if I'm not mistaken it's a felony offense as it involves wire transfers???

Bowles I'm very sorry your family got caught in this scam.........PH's have a good heart and I just know you'll get those 2 tix for your keets.

Right on, wire fraud is what sent one Keith Idema to federal prison the first time.

OK, so I know about him through paintball. He's definitely not the sort I'd hang out with these days, especially since he's currently living in an Afghanistan prison! :D

Moderators: Why doesn't someone suggest to Jim that he remove the phone number field from the Ticket Exchange? It might help cut down on this stuff.

I don't know about a felony (it probably is, but I'm not a criminal lawyer) but I know it's the same as mail fraud so it's a federal offense.

Wow, I feel so bad for you. I know exactly how you feel though. About 3 years ago, I fell for a similar scam on ebay. I was bidding on tickets, but didn't win them. Then I got an email from "the seller" who said the winner of the auction couldn't pay for the item and changed their mind asking me if I still wanted them. Of course, I thought heck yes. Then he emailed me and said that he was on a month vacation in Paris, and would need the money wired, then he would email me the tickets. I was skeptical, but then I got an email from "ebay" saying "ebay" has confirmed that the "seller" is on vacation and the transaction is legit. The "ebay" email was real looking and authentic looking and everything. Had ebay logo and all that stuff. He had even created the same screen name as the original "seller" just added a hyphen in the name which I didn't really pay attention too.

So, you guessed it. I wired over $300 to this son of a bi*ch, and you guessed it, no tickets. Just an email from him screwing with me more.

I was able to secure other tickets which was good, just paid a fortune for that show.

I still look back saying I can't believe I fell for that, but it was a good one. I

I think everyone needs something like that in order to know how easy it is to be scammed today. Now, I don't trust a Mother F**ker.

If I even here of anyone having tickets to this show for you, I will do all I can to help you out. I feel bad, but just know that you aren't the only one. Consider it one of life's lessons

Good luck,

ticket scam

I forgot to mention. Don't waste your time with the police or anything, they won't do anything for you. This stuff is so prevelant, and minor to them, you won't get anywhere.

Yeah, the guy had to have ID to get the money, but think about it. Of course the ID is fake or whatever. If he is that smart to do this, he isn't going to use his real name and real Driver License.

That is not always true. I can understand why local police would not probably be interested, due to manpower and other constraints. The actual people that should be contacted would be your state investigative agency. The vary by name but in Georgia they are known as Georgia Bereau of Investigation or GBI for short.

I think that internet fraud falls under the U.S. Dept. of Treasury and the Secret Service handles it. They do handle what is known as the Nigerian 411 or 419 scams.
You need to report them to the FCC as well.

Also Report them to your phone company and to your server. "Ma Bell" does not like competion of theives stealing money over their lines.
Keep a record day and times and duration of the call. Chances are the thief used a cell phone, There are pretty good record kept on cell phones that can place the user anywhere in the world. The cell phone user may think they are anonymous, but the carrier normally isn't.

It could be they areusing VOiP phones such as Verizon or something as well.

They leave a trail no matter where they go and with enough people reporting them they will be found and caught.

Also it not true that they did use a faked ID...not all of them are that smart. Several have been caught using real IDs. Also surveillance cameras often capture images of the person making the pick-up.

You can do searches for the neccessary links to email or contact the appropriate agencies.

If you can't find them, let me know and I will get them for you. I used to have them readily available but I don't at this time.

Keep the original email, you will need the full headers off of it. The originating incoming phone calls are logged into your phone and can retrirve them with *69 I think it is. Should be information on how to do this in your local phonebook or else call your telephone company and ask them how to do it. There will probably be a fee to perform this.
( maybe $00.75 or maybe more )

I hope this helps and is of use to you and to anyone else that has been a victim, or is contacted by these low lifes.

I asked about the phone # field, and also asked for the new thread to be made sticky in the Exchange area.
