Who knows about the Orchestra Section at Smirnoff in Dallas?

Post by surfpirate »

Reason I ask ..... I may possibly have to be traveling on business the week of the show in my area (Nissan in Virginia in August). I know ... I am totally bummed. What makes it worse is that I actually scored two tickets 2nd row center orchestra this year at Nissan. Now I work hard at it and I've sat in the orchestra at Nissan twice before, once in the front row center section. Believe it or not I was somewhat disappointed!". Front row orchestra at Nissan is at least 12+ feet away from the stage and the stage seems about 7 feet high, i.e. its not as close a personal interaction with Jimmy and the band as you would hope. No chance to hand Jimmy an item (book, album cover) to get an autograph. No chance to interact with him. At Nissan Pavilion, except for the "front row" bragging rights, 2nd/3rd row or any other orchestra seat is just about as good.

I've been fortunate enough to sit front row at other venues, e.g. Merriweather Post Pavilion. Done that twice there, and it was awesome. The stage is only about 5 feet high and the front row is only about 3 feet from the stage. We've been lucky enough to interact with Jimmy, get his autograph. He once gave my wife a guitar pick and once bought me a beer when he kicked a beach ball off the stage and it hit me square in the face!

So back to my original question. Since I may not be able to attend the Nissan show I'm considering this ...... working with a broker to trade my Nissan orchestra tix for orchestra at the April Dallas show, then arranging a busines trip to Dallas (I have a team working there), taking my wife and enjoying the orchestra seats at the Dallas show.

But ...... I don't want to do this if the Dallas orchestra is like Nissan, i.e. far away and a high stage. Anyone know the layout of the Dallas Smirnoff Music Centre? I've only got a short time to work this posibly trade of tickets with a broker. Thanks!

Forgot to add this .... even if I don't work out any kind of ticket trades with a broker, I still might travel to Dallas on busines and layover an extra day to go to the show. I'll grab a lawn ticket in parking lot at the tailgating party.

Now as soon as I have to time read read through the 180+ pages and counting posts to the Dallas thread, maybe I'll know who's doing what and get a chance to meet some new people.

there isnt an orchestra section. its an outdoor venue and front row is about 6' from the stage. in other concerts that area is used for mosh pits, but for Buffett it there will be chairs there.

:D Ummm ... yeah ... its kind of hard posting this question without coming off like I'm bragging .... and I suppose if I were truly honest there's an element of "woohoo - look at me - I scored orchestra tix again!" to it. But I honestly work hard to get good tix every year, e.g. camping out 30+ hours in freezing drizzy weather, etc., and between hard work and the right element of luck - I've been able to get orchestra several times.

And this year is the first time since 2002 that I've been able to get back to the orchestra and like I said in my first post I may not be able to go the the August show at Nissan! Thus I've been trying to work with some brokers to do a more or less even exchange of orchestra tix for some other show, possibly Dallas since I can easily arrange a biz trip out that way.

So my question is still out there .... hoping someone can give me the scoop on Smirnoff. Is the front row close enough to take an autographable item and hand it to Jimmy? Or is it set back far from the stage like Nissan in Virginia? Thanks.

Sorry I can't help but I've never been lucky at Smirnoff - always been in the 200 sections or lawn.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving

If you get tickets in the front sections, they are pretty good.

Sitting anywhere from row H up is great.

There are only about 7,500 reserved seats. The sections toward the back are not very close, but ok if you get toward the front of them.

 I'm flattered. I'm honestly amazed I remembered my password from when I registered at BN 5 years ago. I think I posted something 5 years ago asking a question about ..... heck ... I dunno. I think I'll stick around and post this time around. Looks like a lot of friends and fun.

re: "great stories"
Yeah, I suppose I might. Comes from discovering Jimmy Buffett's music 30 years ago and with a little love and luck going forward from there. Most of my Buffett related stories have been chronicled at a website I've been maintaining off and on for many years .... http://surfpirates.com/piratejournals/ . It's crammed full of crap and images and stories Key West and Jimmy Buffett related ... memories I wanted to preserve. How's that for a crash course in all things surfpirate!

Thanks again for the welcome.

Thanks Four Play. That's exactly what I needed. Would have been very difficult to navigate through 190+ and counting Dallas posts. I hope to know by the end of this week whether or not I'll be planning that business trip that will "coincidently" place me in Dallas the same time as the concert. Looks like you guys are really organized, and hopefully I can join in on the fun. Thanks for the welcome and I'll post onto the Dallas PHlocking thread as soon as I can.

Thanks. No - no .... I'm not volunteering for anything. I just saw the BNers FAQs and thought that would make a good addition to the PirateJournals - so I borrowed (stole) that last week from right here on BN. It made for the first update I had made to the http://surfpirates.com/piratejournals/ in well over a year.

I'll leave BNer of the day/week to you longtimers. I'm a newbie around here.
