And I think the majority here would agree with that statement. I've never seen so many friends shut out of tickets from TM, and these are the people that I just *expect* to get tix because they always do.
The question that bothers me so: If so many of *US* got shut out on tickets, who exactly DID get them?

Drunken college kids.

The problem is simple....there are just so many MORE of us now....we all take Virgins to the shows, and they get hooked. Fewer shows, more phans. Do the math....

So it is ok to whine about gas and oil prices ( OPEC sets the price if I remember correctly) But not to complain about ticket prices? Gas, oil, electricity are neccessities of modern life for most people. Some people keep saying they will pay any price well JB is like the OPEC in that respect you keep saying it is going to keep going up.
We have oil right here in America. One of the reasons we pay so much for gas is because of the refineres and the cost to make the gasoline. The newest refinery was built in the 70s. Pretty much everyone realizes that technology has grown and changed by many leaps and bounds since then.
Also do not forget the refineries that were damaged and were shut down last year because of the hurricanes. The state of Georgia shut down schools to save fuel in the buses. This was not about paying for the fuel. This was done to conserve the available fuel. Georgia had on hand something like a 3 or 4 days on hand and that was it. No one knew when they could get more.
The other thing about the oil is the oil is no longer as easy to get to. What they get now needs more refining.
What really BITES is that the price of gas at the station is not affected by the day price per barrel for at least 6 months to a year. It does not stop the station from raising prices.
So if you are one of those willing to pay any price....I thank you for myself and on behalf of everyone else that either will not or cannot justify paying such prices, and putting ticket prices where they are. Expect them to only go higher and higher. Just like OPEC squeezing the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, fifty cent pieces, and dollars for everything they can get out of them. Do I blame JB? No not ultimately, but partly. Mostly, I do blame all of those that are willing to pay any price. I thank everyone of them that says that and I am quite sure all of the scalpers thank them too.
If people want to use smoking as a habit, well smoking is an addiction. It is reported to be harder to break the addiction, than breaking a junkie from heroin. Cigarettes, here are cheaper than $5.00 a pack. They vary in prices but around $3.20 something or so a pack. All of the lawsuits helped drive the prices up.
There is no physical addiction with concerts or JB as there is with smoking.
"Some genius" did come up with a way to handle scalpers long ago, but very few want to realize or accept how simple it is. Just don't deal with scalpers plain and simple. If they don't make any money....they will go out of business and be forced to turn to other things to make money....As long as people keep dealing with them... they will always be out there waiting and laughing all the way to the bank.
Unfortunately very few people will do so.

**edited out the rest of the rant for the sake of space**
What makes it OK to complain about gas prices is the 50% increase in the cost over the last year, (partially due to a war that most Americans don't think we should be fighting), for a NEED item.
It is different from an increase in cost for a LUXERY item such as a concert ticket. I can, if I wish, NOT buy the ticket. I have to buy gas to get to my job, which, by the way, has not seen a 50% increase in PAY over the last year.
Not to mention the fact that increased gas prices lead to higher shipping costs, which lead to higher prices on other things such as groceries (or even concert tickets...it costs a lot of money to ship all that equipment...). This leads a nation into recession.
Yes, I think it is different.

I have no problem with people expressing frustration or sharing criticism, but personally, I just get tired of people who constantly whine and complain. I try to be empathetic and compassionate for friends, family members, etc. who have problems and needs, but anyone who whines non-stop just isn't much fun to be around. There are always people in this world who have it tougher than you or I, and so many of those folks can still look and find that ray of sunshine to life. I'd always admired how my grandmother, who'd long since lost her generation of friends and family and was confined to a nursing home for the last several years, could still find joy (she died at 97).

Oh BLEEP!! Not the old repeated anti war crap about it being a war for oil. What does Iraq have to sell to make money?
Please leave the war out of this. It really does not have anything to do with nor the the price of oil directly. Check out the Seven Sisters ( OPEC) and research them and see how much of a friend they really are.
I suppose if the U.S. had invaded Saudi then you might have a point about it being a war for oil.Saddam was a bad guy. Do you have a better idea on how to fight the war on terror?
Keep believing it is about oil.... go right ahead. You have that choice.
Go check out how much it cost to crack a barrel of crude with the old tech and how much it could cost with new tech and a modernized refinery.
Ignore that cost all you like. Blamew the war is the easy way out and not very realistic.
Plain and simple: Oil companies cannot build new refineries here in the states. Seems enviromentalist keep stopping them at every turn.
Guess where most of the refineries in the states are located. Guess how many of them were damaged and or shut down. It takes roughly 10 days at least, to start a refinery back up from being shut down. Not to mention how many oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico were shut down and/or damaged.
OH let's not forget about the damaged supply lines. The major supply line running east was broken.
Well to hear some people talk, that are willing to pay any price for a concert ticket, it is not a "LUXERY".
Jiimy Buffett wants to make Money. Oil companies want to make Money. People work for oil companies. Jimmy Buffett works for himself. People pay to see Jimmy Buffett. People use plastics, and numerous other petroleum products everyday. Jimmy Buffett raises his ticket prices by 48% or so and some people see nothing wrong with that and even try to justify it and try to justify scalpers and scalping as well.
The price of gas goes up and everyone complains and trys to make an excuse and ignores the obvious ones about the old inefficient refineries, forgets about the damage last year from the hurricanes, etc and wants to blame it on Iraq and President Bush.
SHEESH!!!
So are you saying it ok to complain about gas prices, but not concert tickets that some people have stated they will pay any price for?

You all know I try to stay out of political discussions such as this, so I will make just one comment, then leave this thread.
The War in Iraq was not about oil when it started. We went in to get Saddam.
NEWS FLASH: WE GOT SADDAM!!!
Now the war is about oil.

That might be the most ignorant thing I've ever seen you post.
The DEFINITION of a lux
ury item, from the dictionary, is "Something inessential but conducive to pleasure and comfort".
Concert tickets fit that definition. In most cases, in today's society, gasoline does not.
And, by the way, Sam....if you bothered to read the
content of my post, you will see that I never said that it was a war for oil. I said it was a war "that most Americans don't think we should be fighting", and that it has
contributed to higher gas prices.
OK....I'm sorry that I helped this thread turn political. I will now exit the thread.
Mods....also please note that I did not call Sam ignorant. I called his post ignorant.

Dude or whatever the BLEEP you are, do you really have such a pathetic little life that you must dig into other peoples lives, spread malicious rumours, etc, about them and attack them? Is this your idea of a joke or just being a jerk?
I told you before to leave me alone and I will leave you alone. Obviously you just can't let me be. Jahfin has asked you nicely many times to leave him alone. Obviously you just don't get it when people are telling you politley and you don't get it when they tell you openly.
I am going to tell you one last time plainly and openly, (that is no doubt as of much use as the first time I told you or JaFin asked you politely to cease and desist)... So I am politley telling you to take your snide wisea$$ comments and your "attempts of what you think of as" humor that involves me and my personal life, and fold it up nice and tight, and make sure you got nice and sharp pointy corners, and shove them up your lower posterior ...be sure to slide it in sideways so you get the full effect and leave me the hell alone. I don't find you or your accusations the least bit funny, nor posting information of people privates lives ( which you have never met and making accusations of them based on second hand information from someone that talked to me on the phone ONE TIME) on an open forum to be a good idea.
For everyone else...I apologize for this...R2 has been told repeatedly told and asked before.
Now R2 dude, Get off of my a$$ and stay off of it. Do you understand that? Can I make it any simpler or plainer?
Thank you.

Let me make it clear to you: you opened this one a couple weeks ago after your vacation. You want to climb into threads and take your shots at me? Fine. Expect the favour returned and don't whine about it.
as for digging into your life.. no. It's not like your life in a trailer in the cloaca of GA is really more than humourous to me. I just hear things. From multiple valid sources. You would be amazed at the Telegraph and how it works. They aren't malicious rumours.
So... you really want to call this good? step off, and don't snipe at me in threads. Jah is a big boy and can take care of himself. Your climbing into that, was just stirring crap.
Got it? or do I have to use one-syllable words and drawl it out?
