I figured this would be the best place to check
Has anybody ever stayed at the Southern Cross Hotel on Duval St. I'm staying there for 1 night then going to up to Marathon for a day then back to KW and have reservations at Budget Key West for 3 days. I'm debating weather or not to Stay at the Southern cross instead of Budget Key West. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks

It's always nice to stay at different places, but I wouldn't move if I could stay in the same place all 4 nites.

That's just me, but if you want to move, it's a good way to figure out if you like the place enough to go back and stay there again one day.

Let us know how it was.

I'm going up to marathon over night and don't want to pay for a room when I won't be there so I figured I would give Southern Cross a try the first night since it's on Duval St. and Budget KW is up a few blocks on Eaton. I will post my reviews of both when I get home.

We stayed there during MOTM in 2004. It's a great place as long as you don't have a room in the front. Our room overlooked Duval St., it can get kind of loud.

Larry makes a good point about room location. We stayed at the La Concha on the 6th floor :o on the Duval side. It can get kind of loud.

It's nice ... can't beat the location and it's clean/comfortable. But not luxury. The rooms are small, electric outlets are lacking (we unplugged a light so we could charge one cell at a time) and there are no televisions in the rooms.

That said, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat - the people are nice, the place is clean and the location is great.

I have to concur with Larry. We didn't stay at the Sothern Cross but did stay at the The Curry Mansion. We were not on Duval but about every hour after midnight Sloppy Joe's and anyone else who wanted to came around the corner to the back of the bar to dump barrel full's of empties in their dumpster. It was pretty disruptive to sleep habits, being that was almost underneath our window but we got through it. Next time we will book something a few blocks off Duval not around the corner.

p.s. and drinking more (much more) before hitting the sack didn't make much differnece, it just didnt bother us as much.
