I know JB could play Rice-Eccles stadium (30,000+ seats) without any constraints on ticket sales. U2 and The Rolling Stones have both sold out the venue so as far as this being a tiny market. . . think again, we have hosted a Winter Olympics last I checked and not only do we have professional Basketball, we have a pro soccer team, a hockey team, a baseball team (in the words of Alabama "Our ballclub may be minor league, but atleast its Triple A") . . . even an Arena Football team. There's that AND we are in the potential top five expansion markets for the NFL. Add the fact that we are one of the nations leading tourist destinations with seven (that I can think of) National Parks plus "The Greatest Snow On Earth" with over 12 resorts to enjoy it and I think you might just have to revisit whether or not Utah is as backwoods as you think it is.
As far as the liquor laws go and partying here. . . Granted, the liquor laws are strange, but liquor still pours freely in almost every County in the state and in Salt Lake County alone there are over 250 places to go and "throw down" (Utah Hospitality Association #'s for 2005). Half of those are "Private Clubs" where you can buy a membership for the price of a cover and drink more liberally than you could in a lot of Bible Belt states.
We have atleast three major Microbrews that I can think of, that could stand with any beer from any part of the country (Wasatch, Uintah and Squatters), . . .
Whew, okay. . . I'll quit there. I could go on but I think I made my point.
Really, the only thing missing is Jimmy!
Please Jimmy come back!!!

Catch&Release wrote:There are lots of places Jimmy doesn't play anymore.

Seeing him at Pine Knob, north of Detroit was a summer ritual. Then, with no explanation, he just stopped coming to Detroit.

I think for Jimmy to play a place now, there has to be a bigger incentive than the $...Him playing Wrigley and Fenway were obvious dream gigs for him. At Toronto last year, he talked about the family he has in the area and he appeared to feel genuinely bad that he hadn't appeared for ten years (though I think the fact that the Canadian dollar was worth squat during the mid and late 90's and is now very strong compared to the US dollar, helped impact his decision  )

Jones beach at the start of 4th of July weekend, when he's starting his month off and when his family can drive home from the show with him....seems an easy choice! Same thing about Mohegan...

Why would he want to play Utah? Why would he want to play Detroit? Having lived in Detroit for 10 years, there is not much about Detroit that would make someone want to spend the weekend there in June or July...Maybe if Jimmy took a GM endorsement (like Tiger Woods) he'd come to Detroit. It's funny that one of Tiger's big endorsement contracts is with Buick and Buick holds a golf toury in Flint each year...Every year Flint holds its breath wondering if Tiger will appear, as some years he doesn't....

Traverse City on the other hand is a different story in terms of a place you would want to spend a summer weekend in MI :D .

I wish he would play my favorite State - Alaska...That would be awesome! Jimmy's a big fly fisherman. I guess the fact that, if it wasn't raining out, any summer show in Anchorage in the summer would be in daylight, might be an issue...But were the Wrigley shows daylight shows?

Oh well...I'm just grateful the man's still touring. Thank's Jimmy! If we have to drive, we have to drive...
If you're done knockin the D, you're welcome leave...I'm sure the kind folks in Ohio would take you.

but there would be constraints on alcohol sales....R-E is state owned property and consequently NO alcohol at all.....'cept what's smuggled in in flasks cleverly disguised as binoculars!

Also, no advertising of alcohol is allowed.....hmmm, tour sponsored by Margaritaville Tequila/Corona, etc.....could be a problem.

And I do agree that Utah is not the cultural wasteland that many people perceive it to be.....I'm with you on that, Rich.....but I still think Buffett coming back to Utah is a stretch....

Maybe next winter we should shoot for a Freddy and the Fishsticks vacation in Park City instead of Aspen....now THAT is totally, completely and wonderfully DOABLE!

d*m straight.. If you haven't driven 3 hours one way to see a movie, you really can't empathize with the "wow.. 135/225/325 miles for a Buffett concert and I want one in my freakin' backyard!!!" BS. :)

or, the infamous.. 900 miles in one day? sure.. I can drive that.. ;)

Baudette MN, to Billings, MT. One day after a major blizzard finished passing thru... or Great Falls all the way to Glasgow, 4 hours sleep, then up to Plentywood, down to Sidney, across thru Roundtown and Jordan back to Great Falls in 20 hours..

and the only Buffett involvement might have been on the radio station out of Wolf Point..

Tequila Revenge,

Jimmy played the same video at the show in Toronto last year...Yes, I was very envious...I think Jimmy would love to play Anchorage as he could finish the show and fly off to wherever he wanted to go fish...

Captain Morgan,

I love Detroit. I was just there last weekend. Had dinner in Royal Oak Saturday night at Andiamos and lunch on Sunday at Pizzpapalis, which was good as always. The city looked great, even six weeks after the Super Bowl. I guess my comments about Detroit that you reposted could be construed as a slam, BUT, come on! What would there be for Jimmy to do near Pine Knob before or after a show? Go to the Great Lakes Crossing? Go hiking at Bald Mountain? The easiest time of the year to get a table at a restaurant anywhere in Detroit or the suburbs during the summer is on the weekend, because it's MUCH nicer to be up North and the restaurants are empty. It just is, in my humble opinion...Well, I guess Jimmy could take in a Tiger's game, if he wants to see their latest sub .500 team...Detroit is a great city, but I think there are many places way more fun than Detroit for Jimmy to play in the summer....Just my opinion.

I'm not trying to say I shouldn't have to travel like a lot of you do. Don't get me wrong. I flew to Vegas last fall, I'm driving to Phoenix next month. . . I would just like a break once every third concert or so.
Spread the love around. It seems he does pick his favorites and stays there for years.

LMM, see that big space on Santa's map marked, "MT"? care to guess when the last time he played there was? :D

See how far it is from "MT" to Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle or Portland?

That is why I have no empathy for anyone claiming that 300 miles or less is too far to drive to see Mr. Buffett. :)

and not taking a shot at you at all.
