Then damnit Ringling, let's get on that now. . . I didn't realize he never goes to Montana. Honestly, he even has songs with Montana mentioned in the lyrics! You should start a new topic protesting the lack of Butte or Boseman shows. . . I'm in!!!

Nah, the Montanese phans figure they might get lucky and see him in Livingston if he goes out to see LaLa and Tom McGuane, but other than that.. it's a roadtrip. And there are 3 (4 if you count "The Great Filling Station Holdup"'s mention of the Crystal Bar in Bozeman as valid) songs about MT.

Isn't Montana actually southern Canada?

no... not even close. Tho Alberta and Saskatchewan look a lot like MT from a distance.

Why Buffett Doesn't Play Utah

Having been at what I think was the "last" Buffett Concert in Utah..ParkWest ( what it was then) in 1986 I can tell you the reason I think he will never come back...we were right in front of the stage and some freaking idiot threw a FULL BOTTLE OF TEQUILA at him..needless to say and rightfully so...he was really p*** and voiced his displeasure!
I was thrilled to see him, since I was a Mobile native stuck in god forsaken Utah since 1979 and was greatly disappointed this happened since I stayed in Utah till 1991..when I moved to Ohio and got to experience the thrills of Primo Parrothead Parties at Buckeye Lake!!!
Hope to see ya'll at Jones Beach since I am in NJ now!

I was at the PW concert, but it wasn't me......
He played SLC in 1992, so you just missed that one.....I think that was the last Utah show....I didn't go to that show....I was way knocked up then.

Nope, that wasn't me....I was the girl with her top off in the parking lot!
The '92 show was at the Delta.....I think the Salt Palace was history by then.

Most of us moved here from CA (or other overcrowded areas) because we got tired of the rat race...
This is very true. I'm prez of PHIN(Parrot Heads of the Inland Northwest) up here in Coeur d'Alene...Parrotheads ABOUND in North Idaho and growing. Many from CA, many homegrown!

Coeur d'Alene is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.....you must be happy all of the time!
Hey Paige
You're absolutely right- I AM happy all the time! And Coeur d'Alene is a big part of that. Unfortunately it's been discovered. It was a sweeeeet secret for a very long time...but then everyone's looking for paradise I guess. Come visit the PHIN crew up here when you get a chance!

The last time Jimmy Buffett and the CRB played for the public in Utah was 1992, as one of the first concerts at the newly constructed Delta Center. The sound was muddled and pretty bad throughout the show. At the end of the show Jimmy told all of us in the audience "See you next year".
As the years have gone by, I've talked to a friend of mine who worked for J. C. McNeil, the largest concert promoter in Utah and the number one reason that Jimmy hasn't been back is that he hated the muddled sound. The Delta Center is a great place for a basketball game but terrible for concerts.
As far as tailgating, that can be a challenge, although the Grateful Dead kicked off their last tour in 1995 with a 3 day stand at the Delta Center and there definitely was a lot of parking lot action for those.
Park West has become the Canyons and the new owners have built a hotel over the site of the old concert venue. The only music that goes on there is indoors and for crowds numbering fewer then 250.
Deer Valley is too small and it would be virtually impossible for the resort to keep people from sneaking in.
You can rule out the new Real stadium because Dave Checketts has stated that he won't allow the sale of beer nor will he allow tailgating once the stadium is built.
Rice Eccles won't work for the reasons previously mentioned, nor will the Huntsman Special Events center. Nor will the stadiums in Logan and/or Ogden
The E-center is too small, although I think the sound would be decent.
Cougar Stadium, well, can you see Jimmy performing at BYU?!?
Now that we have the Usana Ampitheater I keep hoping that J. C. McNeil will once more bid on bringing Jimmy back to Utah. In the meantime I will plan on going to Las Vegas and Irvine this year.
As for Utah's liquor laws being strange, well, they are but so are the liquor laws in a number of other states. And since 2001, the laws here are much more reasonable however there is still room for improvement.

It would work as a reasonable explanation for me if I were Jimmy...

Nice post Manatee! I was kind of hoping for a Usana show myself. That is what got me thinking. Usana was constructed to almost the same dimensions as the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix from what I understand. I'll give you a report in three weeks. I'm heading to Phoenix on the 18th. I think I'll buy my "Hoot" CD there!
