Sail on Oreo Cookie

Post by Mplsfins »

Just had to put my dog of 12 1/2 years down this morning. Toughest thing I have ever done. My other dog Double Stuff is just lost. Please send a little Phin Power out to the Rainbow Bridge if you could.

Thanks,

Jason

Aw, Jason, I'm so sorry.

But you know you did the right thing, as hard as it was. And Oreo Cookie is now romping in the fields near the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for you.

Phin power to you and Double Stuff.

Maybe this will help.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

We had to do the same thing for my 13 year old Golden Retriever named Corky just this past October. My 9 year old daughter and 6 year old son were heartbroken, since he had been a part of their whole lives.

About a week after he died, my 9 year old daughter said one of the most profound things I've ever heard a 9 year old say. She said "Daddy, you know you only get one first dog in your life, a we were lucky our first dog was Corky. He taught us how to love dogs, and I think he'd want us to have another dog to love someday." I was so proud of her at that moment.

We are now on the waiting list to adopt a dog from GRREAT (Golden Retriever Rescue, Education and Training). They rescue dogs from difficult situations and find them new loving homes.

I'm sure Oreo and Corky are both playing by that Rainbow Bridge (that is a wonderful story). My thoughts go out to your family. It is a difficult time.
