Now everytime I'm in line at the grocery store, the person in front of me is paying with a check???? Don't these idiots realize that their bank gave them a credit/debit card??? Why are people down here still holding me up by writing freakin' checks???
because I like the feeling of writing.. if I have to fill out a check blank, I know that I have spent money. At least I am considerate enough to have the date, the payee, and the signature line filled out by the time I hit the checker.

This obviously doesn't explain those debit cards gathering dust in wallets, but maybe to some people "Plastic is plastic."
But I am all for any means to speed up checkout time.
I only use checks when I have to mail a payment somewhere.
(I still remember the first time I tried to pre-pay for fuel at a gas staion in the Deep South. That cashier looked at me like I was purple. Then she saw the out-of-state tags and said, "We don't do it that way down heah.")
pay bills on line. you get a record of the payment.. pay for groceries with checks.

every two weeks or so on the download, but I check the balance fairly often too. and no, I tend to avoid the express lane if I have more than the requisite number of items.. oh, and I don't use the self-check lines either.

I LOVE THE SELF-CHECK LINE!!!! I guess it's my way of fulfilling my dream of one day becoming a grocery store clerk!
No to writing cheques in the grocery store. I only still write cheques when I have to pay by mail to people who aren't set up to take plastic.
Along those lines, we have something here called self-checkout in the grocery store where you scan your own groceries, pay with plastic, bag 'em yourself, and then wish yourself a "nice day" on the way out of the store.
Being a neo-Luddite, I'm against this kind of thing on principle - too much automation in my world already. I don't think computers and their keepers should be running the world.

I like to stand and watch the guy who thought he was smart enough to figure out the self-check line but isn't.. They get so frustrated and end up having to have someone come help them... HILARIOUS!!!

Since they are not paying me to do the work of a checker, they can pay the checker like always. There aren't that many savings passed on to me, so screw the suits in the front office.
