I still write checks when I don't have the cash on hand or the bill comes to more than I thought it would.
The only thing about people writing checks are when they stand there and have to balance their check book while people are waiting behind them. SHEESH!!!
There are people out there that don't like plastic because of the paper trail it leaves behind. Granted checks can do the same thing.
After all of the losses of personal data by some of the credit corporations......the threat becomes very real. Paying things online with all of your personal information is subject to a threat too. Get a trojan on your puter or the right worm and your personal data is as good as gone....you won't be laughing long.
True enough apparently computers are safer to make transactions with than credit cards, rather than handing your CC to a stranger that walks away with it and dissappears for several minutes. Several waitresses have been busted for credit fraud for doing that to customers and using their info. At least one person has posted elsewhere, in here about it happening to them.
Once it happens to you...you have a fight on your hands like you have never seen. Yep, I will stick with checks and CC for emergencies. I get sick and tired of paying fees when the automatic teller is down that does not accept my bank card, and I don't have the cash. Cheaper to write the check....

90% of the time I do my banking / bill paying online.
I use debit and credit cards.
I write checks for certain things that don't take credit cards (like some doc's offices), charities, "home parties" (such as Party Lites, etc.) and for our rent.
I've had the same checking account since 1981 - and I'm up to check # 11,062 - and have NEVER bounced one.

Here in Idaho you can still pay in most fast food places with a checkSMLCHNG wrote:90% of the time I do my banking / bill paying online.

It's my Buffett lifestyle... if it looks like I got it, then I SPEND IT!!
Debit cards and my computer have cured me somewhat, as I'm in constant contact
with my accounts, and can track my spending almost instantly!
... and yeah... I just about lose it when I get stuck behind that check-writer in the grocery line.
If I can halfway keep up with today's technology, why can't EVERYONE!
Are these the folks whose VCR is still flashing "12:00"... "12:00".... ???
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

While I agree some people use their Credit Card at places like Sonic, I use my Debit/Check Card as aa credit Cardcitcat wrote:Geeze....I only use a credit card in an emergency...or when traveling.
When I use a check, it doesn't take any longer than using a credit card.
And I have a debit card, but after all the fraud with THOSE, I may cut it up.
I HATE to pay for food (for something that ends up in the septic tank). It's simply a mental thing....but when I saw our local Sonic with a credit card swiper on the microphone/choice stand, I rolled my eyes. But it's a college town and prolly the kids have to eat with Mom and Dad's credit card.

And let's not forget the 'prepaid' Visa and Mastercards....some parents are using them for things like teen's allowances or sending gifts. It allows a person to purchase things online that they can't do with cash or a check.Sidew13 wrote:While I agree some people use their Credit Card at places like Sonic, I use my Debit/Check Card as aa credit Card

I hate them having the precedent of "well, we were taking out a set amount every month", on the off-chance that I cancel a service and the money still comes out... knowing customer-service monkeys on a few projects, it's easier to set the payment month by month, and never touch the "monthly payment" button..BadHabitsAcctnt wrote:I pay the rent via check, one credit card and one vehicle payment, all else comes out of the bank without any hassle.

Hehehehe... That's funny cause I just used the credit card thingy at sonic the other day.. I use my credit card for everything, not cause I don't have money but cause I get points to use at hilton hotels for using my cc. I haven't paid for a hotel room in over a year!citcat wrote:but when I saw our local Sonic with a credit card swiper on the microphone/choice stand, I rolled my eyes. But it's a college town and prolly the kids have to eat with Mom and Dad's credit card.
