I write checks all the time.
I rarely carry cash and don't have a debit card.
Checks are my best friend.

Oh... Did I say idiots write checks? I meant.... um... Really cool people!
I didn't know there were still banks that didn't give a debit card when you open an account...

Shane?
It's
Charleston....They don't give up on anything easily...Hell if you stand still long enough we'll have a monkey statue in Marion Square downtown next to Francis Marion...
When Publix came in? I saw bumper stickers all over...."I'm stickin' with The Pig"..for Piggly Wiggly.....
Some people won't take the Mark Clark and insist on crossing the old Ashley River bridge...calling it "the
real way"
God I miss home sometimes.....
Speaking of home......I'm about due for a visit.....

Yeah... That's one of the things I'm having the hardest time adjusting to.. These people just don't deal well with change.. You'd think everyone would love the new bridge over the cooper river but half the people are p*** cause the other one was so "historical"....
So, when ya coming to visit??? We still haven't really been out to check out the bars yet believe it or not.. We need to have someone show us where to go!

Oooooo! Oooooo! I can do that!
Let me think..and get in touch with my neice..she works at St Francis....
We'll come up with a plan...
and when saying the word "change" in Charleston?
be very careful......and speak softly....

I write checks, but not when I'm shopping. That's what credit cards are for.

You gonna be there? I'd go, not cause I've ever heard of Scearce and Ketner, but to have a couple drinks with ya, but we're either making a trip to NY to see steph's dying grandma or a trip to gainesville to see my father this weekend...

I have seen and heard a certain cultural bias against using credit cards for grocery purchases. I assume this comes from a Depression-era notion that you shouldn't eat what you can't afford -- and credit is for something you can't afford (...today). This obviously doesn't explain those debit cards gathering dust in wallets, but maybe to some people "Plastic is plastic."
But I am all for any means to speed up checkout time.
I only use checks when I have to mail a payment somewhere.
(I still remember the first time I tried to pre-pay for fuel at a gas staion in the Deep South. That cashier looked at me like I was purple. Then she saw the out-of-state tags and said, "We don't do it that way down heah.")

Sorry to hear that. Not sure what my plans are this weekend but I'd love to make the trip even though they play around here (coastal NC) all of the time. Keep an eye on their web site as they play SC a lot as well:

On the check thing, I still write 'em but I use one in a grocery store it's already filled out before I get there. I do use credit cards more frequently these days but never owned one until '99, believe it or not.
