I may be wrong but I always thought the song was about the city of Savannah, especially since it wasn't even written by Buffett.

I remember hearing Jimmy say in concert that if the song was about his daughter it would be called "Savannah get a god d@mn job"

Wow, I had just assumed it was about his daughter. We like it better this way anyhow. Thanks for the corrections.

If the phone Doesn't ring it's me ...............

i know it means more to me than most ( all) ...but it was the first song i thought of ............. really listen to this
There are oceans of feelings between us
Currents that take us and sweep us away
That's why we seldom have seen us
In the light of a cold hard day

Lots of new friends with the same old answers
Open your eyes, you might see
Of our lives were that simple
We'd live in the past
If the phone doesn't ring, it's me

Souviers ...........
Noboby has heard that one very much either ...But take it from a person who lost the one they loved very much ...that song is lived every day

Gosh, I was wondering how many posts I would have to read before someone mentioned this one. My favorite of the "oldies". Coast of Carolina from more recent work.

Oh my gosh! That is such a beautiful song.

Jimmy explains why he selected Savannah Fare You Well for FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD.
"I love great country songs and Hugh Prestwood is a great country songwriter... who lives across Peconic Bay from where I spend my summers. . . I had a difficult decison choosing a song of his, but again what fit the mood and where we were going at that point in the record. I loved a couple of lines in Savannah Fare You Well. It had nothing to do with my daughter, it's more about the town. I was probably a sucker for a Savannah in the title. It was always my favorite word, obviously I named my daughter after it. It's an African word also. It's a great song and takes me in a direction to use other people's material that kinda fits the general theme of what's going on."

Lyrics:
There is something in the wind tonight
Some kind of change of weather
Somewhere some devil's mixing fire and ice together
I got a feeling that the dark side of the moon is on the rise
Black as a crow's feather

Now I could stay another day or two
But what's the use of stalling
Deep in the winter even holdout leaves start fallin'
Lately every night above the declarations of our love
I hear the road callin'

It's such a fragile magic
A puff of wind can break the spell
And all the golden threads are frail as spider webs
Savannah fare you well

In a vision I had yesterday
It rained so hard that I drowned
While I waited for a hurricane to die down
The raging water rolling over me was wild as a heart
That love cannot tie down

You may want to listen to Savannah Fare You Well by the writer--Hugh Prestwood. He adds some lyrics -- "the golden dunes appears against the silver tears?"

He now has a CD out including Savannah Fare You Well.

More accurately, Buffett left out some lyrics. I say that because the song was obviously altered from the original version which was written by Hugh Prestwood.

Interesting to see "Creola" getting such love and hate (it's also been mentioned a few times in the "Worst Songs" thread). I like it myself but never counted it among Buffett's "top shelf" material.

Nobody Talks to the Captain No More, If we are talking about melody by definition. I agree with Jah about Creola. Never realized so many people like it. I don't.

also, Love in the Library, Quietly Making Noise, False Echoes, Thats What Livin is to Me, Remittance Man, Pacin the Cage,

so many, so many......  :) :)
