But to completely end the hunt would cause harm to so many lives of HUMANS.
Come up with viable alternative means of either killing the seals or if you want to end the hunt come up with ways for these people to have income and make a living.
Don't just go in and take away their livelihood and pat yourselves on the back and say job well done.
It in no manner, shape, or form takes away their livelihood...these native peoples are NOT living the way they did 150 years ago....

My first step into this debate is with trepidation.
I merely mean to clarify a usage.
I suspect the first usage of the word
livelihood is defined as
means of support or subsistence, not some element of customs or culture. Nor does it have special attachment to native peoples.
Back to lurking.

i guess you've never witnessed something like this, or taken part in it. if you had, you'd know that a spike to the head happens so fast its instantaneous. not inhumane at all.
NOT TRUE nestle crunch...not true at all...certainly NOT the film I've seen..and reports from various humane organizations...

Learn something new everyday I guess. It is not a easy thing either way. I would think most of us do not understand the impact to the native tribes, and on the other hand I cannot comprehend such a barbaric activity occuring in 2006.
Brad, that right there says what it's all about...

by witnessed i meant first hand.
the video you saw was probably just like the videos the vegans show "potential converts." they find the most absolute horrid video of a cow slaughtering; a method that was not at all widespread (and it's usually from the 50's or 60's). then they show it to all their ignorant buddies and tell them "this is how every cow in america is slaughtered." also, im sure the humane societies which issued these reports are the same ones that issue reports to PETA. the same people who clain that a hooked fish feels the same pain as a hooked dog would.
i understand and respect your concerns. but whichever video you saw im sure was a freak thing caught on tape, then blown out of proportion. i can tell you first hand that the method of killing in question is almost always quick and humane. there are the rare exceptions. but it happens in capital punishment and i dont see anyone lining up to protest inhumane killing of inmates

hmm..well I've seen that..at almost every execution that takes place in Oklahoma State Penetentiary..however, that is no concern of mine...honestly...there were found guilty by a jury of their peers...and sentenced...I feel no mercy for them at all...other than perhaps they should be take out the same way they took someone else out ..you know..the eye for an eye thing...oh yeah..and I don't consider lethal injection inhumane....
actually, this has been something I've been involved with for quite a few years...saw the first documentary by Costeau.. if that tells you anything about how long I've been involved in this...I doubt you'd question his knowledge of what goes on...?
No it wasn't a freak thing..and not propaganda, and I have never seen or received anything in regard to the pain of fish being caught, quite the contrary...and has nothing to do with PETA...or vegans...I assure you...
As far as witnessing it first hand...that's just something I couldn't do...
soo you're saying you've witnessed this clubbing first hand?

Penguin brings his car in for service and the mechanic tells him to come back in an hour.
It's a warm day so the penguin goes and gets himself a vanilla ice cream cone. When he goes back to get his car the mechanic says "looks like you blew a seal."

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing wax---Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
