There are many harp players out there who could fit the bill. The HARP is long overdue to be added to his shows again.

I'd love to audition......if I wasn't such an amateur.....

Why? Being in a Buffett tribute band shouldn't make anyone a better or worse candidate. I'm thinking how well they play the harmonica would be the key.....
I agree about ability but being in a band that imitates Buffett is usually a good sign that there's very little in the way of originality there. At least that's been my experience with the majority of those type of artists. Please notice I said "majority", not all.
Imitation ~ the purest form of flattery!

To me, turnabout is fair play! Since Amy Lee, TC Mitchell, and Doyle Grisham have played with the Boat Drunks, a Boat Drunk may as well play with the Coral Reefer Band! :D

And incidentally Jahfin, in regard to the Boat Drunks... if you go to www.boatdrunks.com you'll see someone else I think you respect, was impressed by them!

I'm just sayin'...

Playing songs by Jimmy Buffett and being a tribute band are not the same thing.

Thanks for the link. I'll do my best to listen with an open mind but the cheesey Hawaiian shirts, the Panama hat, and the play on "Boat Drinks" aren't doing much for my image of them as Buffett imitators...

I always thought Jimmy might consider a return to the harp. To me, it just seemd to be such an important part of the early sound.

I think enough time has passed. And in reality I doubt many in the crowd ,except those that follow Jimmy and the CRB, would really take much notice of a harp player that isn't Fingers.

Marvin Gardens isn't still with the CRB either! :o :D

I agree with Tiki Bar...the Boat Drunks are a kick-ass band!

I really do think we will see a new harp player...either that or another keyboard player. The horns covered for the harp when Fingers was dropped...I don't believe just a trumpet can cut it.

Just my .02 cents...

I wouldn't call everyone who does "tropical" music a Buffett imitator, maybe inspired by Buffett like myself.
Are all reggae band Marley imitators?
I suppose if they did not do "tropical" music they could be compared to a billion other bands out there.

Having seen Scott Nickerson live I think he'd be great but I doubt it would ever happen and I'd be suprised if Fingers ever came back.
I wonder who played harmonica on Piece of Work.

I heard "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home" on Sirius today. What a great song. Love the harmonica in it. Would love to see Buffett get back to doing the classics!

Does John Lovell play harp?

Image

Sure sounds qualified to play anything, although he is mostly a jazz musician...

When trumpet-player JOHN LOVELL isn’t playing with the Explosion he’s touring with Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, in one of the world’s most popular touring bands. The son of a trumpet-player, John was already playing at the age of five and played with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the O’Jays while still in his teens. A graduate of the University of Miami, John Lovell has been part of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefers for twelve years and is considered to be one of South Florida’s most excellent musicians.

Tommy Womack played harmonica on the original that Will Kimbrough wrote and recorded.

I appreciate the offer, but it's going to have to be someone else. I can't take the time to tour this year.

I agree, that's why I said this:

No, they're not but then Marley isn't responsible for the creation of reggae either.
