And on a similar, but different note, what athlete 1st caught your attention, and made you want to emulate them? The 1st I can think of is Magic Johnson... LOVED him!

I put this in the entertainer thread - Willie Mays. Greatest baseball player I've ever seen and he looked like he was actually having fun on the field. How many guys today look like they're enjoying themselves?

I was a big fan of the flyers during the Broad St Bullies period
Bernie Parent, Dave Schultz, Reggie Leach, Rick MacLeish
Also liked Mark Spitz, was kinda young, and had a kiddy crush on Joe Nameth.

ROGER MARIS!!!
But I do agree with Larry-Willie Mays is the greatest player I ever saw play.
Not saying he's THE greatest (altough he comes d^mn close-but he's the greatest I ever SAW play. Followed VERY closely by Roberto Clemente.

Another one besides Willie Mays, and this is going to be a little off the wall, John Carlos. Not for what he did in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City with the black glove fist in the air salute, but for what he did on the track. I was a sprinter on the track team when I was in high school and he was one of the best sprinters in the world, maybe THE best, for a couple of years.

Another Long Islander. I think they give an award named for him to the best high school baseball player in Suffolk County every year.

James Worthy (serious talent, class act.)
George Brett (Summer of 1980 - a beautiful time.)
