Last I checked Buck Owen was a MUSICIAN, so why not bring the post that is in the off topic area over to the related artists section? Just a thought....Brown Eyed Girl wrote:There's a thread over in off topic, please post comments there.![]()

I agree. I never knew a person's passing had anything to do with the appropriateness of where a thread remains. He's definitely not what's generally considered "Off Topic" material.jbfinscj wrote:Last I checked Buck Owen was a MUSICIAN, so why not bring the post that is in the off topic area over to the related artists section? Because I feel it's disrespectful to be discussing where a thread should or shouldn't be when we're talking about a man's death.Jahfin wrote:I never knew a person's passing had anything to do with the appropriateness of where a thread remains. Well, I don't feel that should even enter the picture. If I was new here and wanted to discuss the passing of Buck Owens (or Cindy Walker for that matter) I certainly wouldn't go looking in the Off Topic section. It could simply be moved to Related Artists without any fanfare.SMLCHNG wrote:Because I feel it's disrespectful to be discussing where a thread should or shouldn't be when we're talking about a man's death.Jahfin wrote:I never knew a person's passing had anything to do with the appropriateness of where a thread remains. Off Topic, that's where you posted about it yesterday. http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... 92&start=9Jahfin wrote:If I was new here and wanted to discuss the passing of Buck Owens (or Cindy Walker for that matter) I certainly wouldn't go looking in the Off Topic section. That thread hasn't been moved, another one has been started on the same subject.
Yes, I did comment on there yesterday but in the post above I mentioned "if I was new" and I am not new to this site. I also noticed that it hasn't been moved and my post has since been edited to reflect that.Elrod wrote:Off Topic, that's where you posted about it yesterday. http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... 92&start=9Jahfin wrote:If I was new here and wanted to discuss the passing of Buck Owens (or Cindy Walker for that matter) I certainly wouldn't go looking in the Off Topic section. Again, rather than there being all this discussion on it, it could simply be moved to Related Artists simply because that's where it belongs since it is about Buck Owens, a musician. It's great that people feel so strongly about the ensuing discussion revolving around the passing of Buck Owens instead of where the thread belongs but it could just be moved without any of that having to take place.
Well I guess that's part of the "damned if you do and damned if you don't" aspect of being a Moderater. At least a couple of us think it would be more appropriately placed in the Related Artists section.SMLCHNG wrote:...Jahfin wrote:but it could just be moved without any of that having to take place.
Followed by the inevitable thread, "why was my thread moved?"![]()
There have been several "Sail On" threads in Off Topic about musicians, and not one person has complained, until now.

Well, when Jim asks you (or anyone else) to be a moderator, you can put stuff whereever you want. Please don't make this about me. Someone else, along with myself expressed a feeling that we felt the subject of Buck Owens' death would be more appropriate if placed in the Related Artists section. I don't see why that has to be such a big deal. Maybe because it would actually make more sense if it were placed there?phjrsaunt wrote:Well, when Jim asks you (or anyone else) to be a moderator, you can put stuff whereever you want. Again, you guys are trying to turn this around and make me out to be some sort of bad guy when that isn't the case at all. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the topic were actually moved to the Related Artists forum where it belongs since Buck Owens was a musician. I'm not sure what's so hard to understand about that.SMLCHNG wrote:And I don't either. So why does it seem you're making it that way?Jahfin wrote: I don't see why that has to be such a big deal.
Did you read the part earlier where I said something about someone being new to the site and looking for a similar topic? I said they would most likely look under Related Artists not Off Topics. I am not new to the site so I wasn't surprised to find such a topic in the inappropriate forum but does that preclude me from saying something about it? Again, quit trying to make this about me when it is NOT about me. If the thread were simply moved without any fanfare to the appropriate forum we wouldn't even be having this discussion.Elrod wrote:It wasn't big enough deal for you to object to the thread's location when you posted in it yesterday.Jahfin wrote:It wouldn't be such a big deal if the topic were actually moved to the Related Artists forum where it belongs.

Related Artists Discussion
Here you can discuss any other artist
Off Topic Area
In this forum you can discuss anything from sports, news, or what ever is on your mind.
No, it wouldn't be such a big deal to move it, nor is it a big deal to leave it where it is. Yes, he was a musician, but we're not exactly discussing his music, but his passing. No one has said it's difficult to understand, but it's not doing any harm by being where it is.
Your certainly allowed to say something about your feelings, just as we're allowed to disagree with you.
The fanfare started when you made something more of this than needed to be. Two people have questioned the location of the thread. No one else has.

IMHO, a newbie to this site is more likely to be looking for any topics about Jimmy Buffett, not the death of Buck Owens.Did you read the part earlier where I said something about someone being new to the site and looking for a similar topic? [trying to steer this thread BACK to the fact that it's about Buck Owens and not where the thread is placed....]
From CMT.com
Country Music Hall of Fame member Buck Owens died of an apparent heart attack just hours after performing Friday night (March 24) at his Crystal Palace restaurant, club and museum in Bakersfield, Calif., according to his longtime spokesman, Jim Shaw.
"He had come to the club early and had a chicken-fried steak dinner and bragged that it's his favorite meal," Shaw told the Los Angeles Times. After the meal, he planned to cancel his Friday appearance after telling band members he wasn't feeling well. Before he reached his car, however, a group of fans introduced themselves and explained they had traveled from Oregon to attend the show. The 76-year-old singer returned to the club and performed the show.
Shaw recalled Owens telling the audience, "'If somebody's come all that way, I'm gonna do the show and give it my best shot. I might groan and squeak, but I'll see what I can do." Shaw added, "He died in his sleep ... probably of heart failure. So he had his favorite meal, played a show and died in his sleep. We thought, that's not too bad."
Owens was rushed to Bakersfield Memorial Hospital sometime after 4:30 a.m. Saturday (March 25) but could not be revived, Shaw told the Bakersfield Californian. Although Owens had performed nearly every weekend at the Crystal Palace since opening the $5-million complex in October 1996, he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1993 and suffered a minor stroke in 2004. He had previously been treated for respiratory problems.
All of Owens' three marriages ended in divorce. He is survived by three sons: Buddy Alan (who charted several hits as a Capitol recording artist in the early '70s)m Michael and Johnny.
Plans for a funeral or memorial service had not been announced Sunday.

Geez I step away for a few hours and it looks like I "caught me a tiger by the tail."
First of all let me say thank you yo Jahfin for sticking up for me and my post. Second let me apologize to everyone for the tension that this post has seemed to cause. With all that being said let me conclude with this: SAIL ON BUCK OWENS!!
Now I created this post and I am going to respectfully ask all of you to quit your arguing and pay your resepcts to the late great Buck Owens.
