When you and your family do your annual summer vacation? wht is the average cost you pay to rent and the average spending money you use? Sometimes i am amazed at what people spend and i dont know if i am just not the average vacationer or what. usually the rental is about $1000 a week and about $700 in spending cash for me.

That is a average 'get away' sort of vacation...in the off season....an actual all out vacation is normally much more.

We spend what we can fit into the budget....the people I am really jealous of are the ones that own the beach houses we rent!!

We generally take our family vacation during peak season (late june thru august). This is primary because of children. It's more expensive in every measure -- rent, fuel, food/dining.
$1800-2400 rent. Anybody's guess for expenses.

In a previous life we would vacation any time of year but peak season. March in Florida, Sept in the Outer Banks, late fall or early spring in the mountains. Much cheaper, quieter, more relaxing.
$800-1200 rent. $400-750 expenses. (all toward our own selfish desires)

I love my kids, I love my kids, I love my kids...

and i guess i should also ask the amenities. we usually stay in the last part of august, leading into labor day, last year for that as the boy will be in school next year and the house we stay at either has a private pool or is on the ocean with a community pool.

LOL....now I think you are bragging! You can't touch a house with a private pool, near the ocean, for less then 2500 in the off-off season. Condos with pools are a bit cheaper.

Part of the differences you may be seeing in what people spend could have to deal with location as well....some areas are just going to be more.

We go to a 5 STAR. all inclusive resort in the Carribean... anywhere from 2-5k for 7 nights depending on the type of room you get. however keep in mind... that inclludes ALL expenses...airfare, food, BOOZE, golf, sailing, diving, excursians etc...

This year we are going to Vegas for 4 days... and air and hotel for 2 is running about $400-500 each. Then you have to eat and drink on top of that.... not to mention gambling....

It gets much more expensive based upon the number of kiddies you have. For instance, a family of four for a week at Disney costs about as much as a car.

We usually go camping 3-4 times, minimal cost ($25/ night total). May do one "big" vaca at $2000...it all depends.

Disney is advertising that a family of 4 can vacation at the Mouse in Orlando for $1500 per week. However I am guessing that does not include air and a rental car.

We went to Anaheim last summer and did the Disney thing for a week, and it only cost us about $2000 for tickets (3 days at Disney, 1 day at Sea World and 1 day at the San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal park) and hotel. We drove from Colorado, so tack on another $1000 or so for gas and spending money, we did pretty well. The trick is NOT staying in Disney's hotels. We stayed in a suite with a kitchenette, only a 10 minute shuttle ride from the park.

Hmmm. We spent a week in San Diego last July with some family in Carlsbad. Did 2 days at Disney, 1 day at Sea World, 1 day at zoo. We flew, but only had to pay $ for 1 ticket as 2 of the tickets were a gift from FIL. 1 night at a good-neighbor hotel across from Disney. I think the total trip cost around $3k, but we were very frivolous at Disney and paid for a character dinner and everything for Victoria's birthday.

Hubby and I aren't exactly good examples on how to be thrifty!

Traveling is our weakness and we make sacrafices on many other things so we can enjoy top notch vacations.

I'm taking my son out to the grand canyon and surrounding area's next month and that trip will total about $2500 for a week including, I hope, everything. (in the interest of full disclosure I've been saving money for this one for 2 years)

And we just booked (today actually) our annual major vacation to an all inclusive resort in Antigua and that cost $3500 plus spending money (which shouldn't be much as it's all inclusive)

See, I think that is an excellent approach.

The more I see how much "stuff" we have that we don't really need, I'd rather use money normally allocated for toys to be spent on vacations so our kids will be well-travelled. It's something I rarely got to do as a kid. Already by the age of 8, my daughter has more travelling under her belt than I had by the time I was 20!

Family Vacations........ beachhouse on an island in NC $5000 (has 5 bedrooms, so we split it with a few friends), lots of spending money and grocery money

Adult vacations....... 3-6k for an all inclusive in Jamaica, includes air, food, booze, land and water sports........only need $ for Margaritaville!

Disney vacations........only pay for food for us and kids......Thanks Mom!!!!

we (me, my wife and 3 keets) are definitely of the "work hard, play hard" philosophy. we normally spend 4 or 5 long weekends at the beach (Carolina Beach is close for quick trips) and one (sometimes two) week long stays at Navarre Beach, FL. Because of Hurricane season 2005, we are heading down to Islamorada this summer. we found a very nice private beach house with pool (surrounded by palm trees) and pier. The house will run around $3000 for the week, full day private fishing charter around $1200 (w/ tip) and I have no idea how much we'll spend on food and exploring the Keys, Key West, booze in the blender, etc. but I'm sure we'll stimulate the local economy liquor stores
can't wait for spring 2007 - my oldest son (14) and I are meeting up with my folks in Cane Garden Bay to sail for a week through the BVIs :pirate:

the house we stayed in on the outer banks last year was 400 steps to the ocean and with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths and a private pool and hot tub was 1300 for the week and the place we are looking at this year is a 3 bed 3 bath townhouse on the ocean with a community pool and tennis is 990 for the week

We don't have a pool with ours (only 1 house on the island does), but the ocean is basically right off the deck!

We went to Disney in Oct and spent $3200 for four of us. Hotel, tickets, food, airfare!!! The sad thing is, it costs about the same to rent a house at the Jersey shore for the week.
