I saw Journey with Peter Frampton (yes, he's still alive!) a couple of years ago. If I didn't know what Steve Perry looked like and somebody told me that the new singer (can't think of his name) was Perry, I would've believed it. His voice is close, real close.
All in all, not a bad take. I'd see them again.
I saw that show at Great Woods also. I agree...not bad at all. The new singer for Journey (Steve Augeri) is just about a dead-on match with Steve Perry's voice. Unless you are the world's biggest Journey fan...its tough to tell the difference.

Ditto!!!!! I've actually seen them twice with Augeri. His vocals are comparable enough to do the job and besides to me Journey is built around the great guitar work of Neal Schon and keyboard pounding of Jonathan Cain. When the first chords to songs like Lovin,Touchin,Squeezin are played the crowd tends to take over with their own sing-a-long anyway.

I saw Journey last November with Augeri for the 3rd time, they're still pretty good in concert, I go back to the late 70's early 80's and saw them with Steve Perry a bunch of times in their prime.

They had a "prime"?
Actually some early Journey (pre-Perry) isn't bad and even some of the stuff they did with Perry is standable but the vast majority of their overwrought power ballads helped contribute to the overall suckiness of radio during their hitmaking years.

I'll take the arena rock stylings of Journey, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Boston, etc over Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Counting Crows, the American Idols and most of other crap contributing to the "overall suckiness" of today's radio.

The last few indoor concerts I've been to, they held up their cell phones instead of cigarette lighters.

I like Counting Crows (at least their early stuff anyway).
Other than that I'd say there's more music out there than meets the ear that doesn't get played on the radio. At least broadcast radio. Satellite radio is a whole other thing.
