I guess the part that I dislike about these threads (how many of them now?) are that it seems like an either/or thing.Sam wrote:. When I can take the same money and go on a Windjammer Cruise for a week or perhaps save it towards another boat..or go to the Islands for a week or whatever else I may decide to do with it. Either you don't mind paying the price to see JB and therefore don't actually do anything else, like a trip to the islands, time off to enjoy a boat...that sort of thing...if 300 dollars keeps me from a vacation...then I probably couldn't afford either the vacation or the tickets in the first place.
It's not an either or thing for most people...so the insults and nose- thumbing needs to stop on both sides of this very stupid argument. It just doesn't make someone 'get it' if they don't want to pay the price for tickets. It makes it their choice, period, end of sentence.

Re: Your last show
Insult may be a bit harsh for your post precisely....I am simply pointing out that your post, with the 'maybe you don't get it' comment and that line quoted, does come across as it being an either/or opinion to the price of tickets this year. It just isn't.Sam wrote: Who did I insult with that statement???
There have been plenty of insults, some subtle and some not so subtle on both sides of this.
There is plenty of room in the universe for people to do what they want in regards to enjoying the summer concert season. Listening on the back patio or their boat, ignoring the whole thing, heading to an island that doesn't have electricity or going to the show and being anything from a full out obnoxious drunk to having a good time with friends old and new, to only coming to enjoy the music.
They are choices....not moral dilemmas, not a test to see whose the bigger Parrothead or who can 'live the life' better then someone else.

I will agree it is an opinion you have spoken yours. I will agree it is not a moral dilemma either.Soraya wrote:Insult may be a bit harsh for your post precisely....I am simply pointing out that your post, with the 'maybe you don't get it' comment and that line quoted, does come across as it being an either/or opinion to the price of tickets this year. It is about personal justification and how they can or cannot justify how and where they choose to spend their own money.
If you can justify $1,000.00 ona few hours rather spend it on something is going to last a week.... that is your choice to decide..... As I have said I know what Jimmy Buffett would choose...or at least the "original" Jimmy Buffett would choose.
All I did was state my opinion on who gets it and who doesn't. Someone attacking BCDurbin for his views and prioritizing his family and placing them first, obviously has no clue....That is NOT AN ATTACK....that is an observation and my view of what I observed from the statements.
If you don't like it so be it. Different strokes for different pholks.

Cut the guy some slack already. Maybe he took it a little too far, but I agree with him in that the original post here was a little bit sanctimonious. it kind of sounded like a football fan who gets in the middle of a discussion about seat locations with the lame "I've got the best seat in the house, on my couch in front of the big screen" garbage. and then after his team loses, instead of taking it hard, he praises how he has family that is so much more important in his life than the results of any game. Of course your family is more important to you than a concert, if financially it is any question at all, then you have no business even considering it.
And what was that I'll miss 20%, maybe 40% of you. I am guessing it was a backhanded way of saying the tired old, too many drunks, too much partying, I am all about the music BS. If you don't like sand, stay away from the beach.
And while I am at it. Enough with the ticket prices. Boo freaking hoo, ticket prices went up a little bit. LAWN SEATS ARE $45 PEOPLE!!!!! $45 for the event I look forward to more than anything else all year long. You can barely get a cheap seat at a baseball game for $45. Forget about an NFL or major college football game. A $45 ticket to see Jimmy Buffett may be the last great bargain in the world, and everyone is whining about it. And to the inevitable, "I would rather miss the concert than sit on the lawn" response, I have one thing to say, You are a snob, I'm not going to miss you.

Tickets did not "go up a little bit."
A cheap ticket at a baseball game is no more than $15, tops.
A football ticket is $52+- for a cheap seat.

Something that I think has been overlooked in all these ticket price dicussions is that the cost of doing business has gone up. After the Great White situation where the band, sponsors, venue owners, promoters were all sued, the cost of insurance for one of these shows must be incredable. And the bigger the act, the deeper the pockets, the greater the need for greater coverage. Add in fuel costs and other travel expenses....plus I'm sure that JB can see that the number of shows left in him is getting smaller all the time. And there doesn't seem to be a problem selling out shows, either through ticketmaster or through the higher cost of scalpers. If he can get $126 a seat, charge $126 a seat.

And add in the current lawsuit against Jimmy, Clear Channel et al for the drunk driver/motorcycle accident... The premiums for his shows probably did go way, way up.spucketts wrote:Something that I think has been overlooked in all these ticket price dicussions is that the cost of doing business has gone up. My ship she has a rudder, but I don’t know where to steer
And I say all of that is BS. There are acts out there that are just as big as Buffett (if not bigger) that are charging far less.spucketts wrote:Something that I think has been overlooked in all these ticket price dicussions is that the cost of doing business has gone up. Ok, OK
Ok everyone. Listen Up, I APOLOGIZE!! Wow, I guess after reading eveyrone's reply to my reply, perhaps I did jump the gun on the response.
Can everyone accept my apology?? I didn't mean to offend anyone, especially the original poster. Unfortunately, I read his post after getting to work and dealing with a clueless co-worker. I guess I took it out in that response. SORRY... Wow, I didn't expect such a tongue lashing....
Obviously, the ticket prices are a bit much this year. I will agree with that. And heck, I have 3 boys myself, so money is a precious commodity.
Actually, whoever the original poster is, I will be at the Nissan show this year. If you are going to be there, perhaps I can supply you with a cold Corona to make ammends.
If you don't forgive me, please let me know!!
