I've seen Springsteen about 7 or 8 times and the tickets are usually cheaper than Buffett's. I saw a few comments in this thread about taking the money you would spend on tickets and putting it toward a vacation, "live the life" or something like that. I became a Buffett fan because of the music not because of some fantasy lifestyle. I never had any desire to cruise the Caribbean or be a beach bum, I go to Buffett concerts because I like the MUSIC. Period. I'm not trying to live my life through someone else. If I want to go to the beach I can get in my car and be there in 20 minutes.

I am not Jahfin, but I do see it as rubbing "salt into the wounds" of those that cannot justify or afford the prices.
Ok, so there are affordable lawn seats...Any numerous reasons have been listed as to why people did not or could use lawn seats...none of those reasons make them snobs as some inferred.( No not you CaptainP)..what does that say about seating prices at other venues, he will play next tour, and there is no lawn seating because there is no lawn??? does anyone realisticly expect there to be lower prices at such venues?
Roll with the punches, play all of your hunches...come what may...

Can everyone accept my apology?? I didn't mean to offend anyone, especially the original poster. Unfortunately, I read his post after getting to work and dealing with a clueless co-worker. I guess I took it out in that response. SORRY... Wow, I didn't expect such a tongue lashing....
Obviously, the ticket prices are a bit much this year. I will agree with that. And heck, I have 3 boys myself, so money is a precious commodity.
Actually, whoever the original poster is, I will be at the Nissan show this year. If you are going to be there, perhaps I can supply you with a cold Corona to make ammends.
If you don't forgive me, please let me know!!

NEXT.....What is up with people today? It is not the $45 ticket everyone is upset about, it's the tickets that cost over $100.00. Just for the record I could have afforded the ticket very easily this year...HOWEVER I have seen Jimmy multiple times and for the most part the show is the same every year. If you don't believe me, go out and purchase any or all of the "Live in" CD's that he has been releasing. No one is here is a snob, they are just a little wiser with their money then you. With that being said, I don't think anybody cares who you are going to miss or not miss this year. I am also guessing that you enjoy having beer spilled all over you while sitting up in the lawn. Learn how to talk to people and show a little respect. Anyone else want to get me started today, because I am on a roll. The Boy Nobody Knew wrote:Cut the guy some slack already. Maybe he took it a little too far, but I agree with him in that the original post here was a little bit sanctimonious. it kind of sounded like a football fan who gets in the middle of a discussion about seat locations with the lame "I've got the best seat in the house, on my couch in front of the big screen" garbage. and then after his team loses, instead of taking it hard, he praises how he has family that is so much more important in his life than the results of any game. Of course your family is more important to you than a concert, if financially it is any question at all, then you have no business even considering it.
And what was that I'll miss 20%, maybe 40% of you. I am guessing it was a backhanded way of saying the tired old, too many drunks, too much partying, I am all about the music BS. If you don't like sand, stay away from the beach.
And while I am at it. Enough with the ticket prices. Boo freaking hoo, ticket prices went up a little bit. LAWN SEATS ARE $45 PEOPLE!!!!! $45 for the event I look forward to more than anything else all year long. You can barely get a cheap seat at a baseball game for $45. Forget about an NFL or major college football game. A $45 ticket to see Jimmy Buffett may be the last great bargain in the world, and everyone is whining about it. And to the inevitable, "I would rather miss the concert than sit on the lawn" response, I have one thing to say, You are a snob, I'm not going to miss you.

I don't HAVE to buy tickets and go every year, I just love the experience and the memories that I get from it. Maybe someday I will tire of it, but I've always been of the opinion that if I really want to do something, I'll find a way to afford it. If someone else chooses not to, that is their choice. I'm just saying that gives others an opportunity.

Buffett is not famous for his music...he is famous for his lifestyle, which he sells through his music....his concerts are unique not for the music, but b/c of the tailgating prior to the concert.
And I'll bet 9 out of 10 of us have a desire to cruise the carribean and/or become a beach bum.

Okay, so there is a contingent here that while not being snobs, still consider themselves somehow above sitting in lawn seats. Fine. But are any of you familiar with basic supply/demand principle? Last year, in most locations pavillion seats sold out in 3 or 4 seconds. So you jack the price up to try to eliminate demand, they still sell out in a matter of seconds. You've got one side whining that it costs too much and the other side whining that they got shut out. Meanwhile the vast majority of us are sitting on the lawn, enjoying a rum drink and laughing at who it is that really doesn't "get it".jbfinscj wrote:NEXT.....What is up with people today? Good point...we have gone astray.MikeInNOLA wrote:This original topic of this thread was more about priorities changing in folks lives. Nothing more, nothing less.
I was thinking about this today...when the concert was announced, I get all worked up just like every other year....come sat morning I'm at my computer....come 9:59, I'm pushing "refresh" like a rat looking for his next fix. Get a couple of seats and process them without even processing what just happened.
Get the cc bill last week and damn if that charge doesn't look ugly. I was so caught up in the hype that the cost did not really register with me until I was removed from the whole experience. It was only then that I started to think about how else I could have used that money...and whether my priorities, too, are changing.

I don't think Jimmy agrees with you, since he was the one basically saying PHs were taking it way too seriously. Wasn't that what his "get a life" comment was perhaps saying?
When I was quite young I thought beach bum was an actual job.

Let's face it...pretty much anyone here can afford tickets without affecting the health and livelyhood of themselves or their family. Heck, if they couldn't...there are probably folks on BN who would be willing to buy them a ticket (it has been done before!).
Heck, ticket prices are just a fraction of the cost of going to a concert anyway. If I tally all the related expenses of going to the Thursday concert in Irvine, the tickets only account for about 20% of what it actually costs me.
For me, it is more about a diminishing return on my investment (concert wise) and changing priorities (personally) than it is about $.

I'm not questioning anyones cred or anything. I'm saying if you're whining about paying too much, about someone getting tickets three rows better than you because of a corporate sponsor or about the fact that a scalper might have made money off of someone, then you've already strayed enough that what really is the point.
And if god forbid someone does spill a beer on you, here is an idea. Chill outt, rub the shark on your head, and get over it. Hell, I still have mud in my hair from Buckeye Lake 91. If someone had spilled beer on you at that show you wouldn't have even felt it, and you know what, it was a top 5 Buffett show for me.
I don't care if the Rolling Stones are brought to you by Ameriquest Mortgage now. Bubba is still presented by Corona.

2. I became a fan because of the music, not the lifestyle. Like I said in the first post, the fantasy lifestyle never appealed to me. I've also said, many times in many threads, that if all the venues that claim to have a "no tailgating" policy suddenly decided to enforce the rule it wouldn't bother me at all. The tailgate party is nice, but that isn't what got me to go to my first Buffett concert and it isn't what keeps me coming back.
3. Maybe 9 out of 10 do, I don't.
