The music always comes first, last year in Indy my husband and I heard Banana Republic (his favorite song) and that is what it comes down to. The feeling you get when you hear THAT particular song. You can party anywhere, and the tailgating is great, but to hear something so great live there is no comparison :D Just my opinion.

I clicked on "To hear the man's music" without hesitation. Granted, I enjoy the tailgate beforehand, however even without I'd still go see him. I'm fine with the lawn here in Indy, and no tailgating would leave me with more cash to spend on souvenirs. I'd only have 2 beers inside the gate at the price they want. I don't believe you HAVE to be completely bombed to see Jimmy. OneParticularGirl brought up an interesting point. I've heard some of my favorite songs live at the shows, and NEVER get tired of that. I've taken a slower approach to his music. I don't have all his albums, and don't even know a lot of his older songs. But several times I heard songs at shows I'd never heard before. Barefoot Children, Lage Nom Ai, That's What Living is to Me, and When The Coast Is Clear are all songs I first heard live, then Immediately set about finding out the title of the song and then purchasing it. It's like constantly discovering a great new song by JB every year. I love it, so yes, I will keep going to shows, tailgating be damned! 8)

Involved enough in the lifestyle usually has a parrothead involved with a club..and then friends are made in the club...then events surrounding the club. The concerts are well....a natural progression from what the club has done all year......its the grand party.....friends gathering to celebrate the music, the lifestyle, subjectively of course, did I mention celebrate.

There is something to be said when he plays one of your favorites beyond the traditional set list

and the view ontop the motorhome at Irvine is like no other view...

It was where the Cracker Posse was born !!!!!!!! okay fine...the posse was born in Vegas..but close enough

I agree with the person who posted earlier about the ticket prices being high for ONLY the concert. There's no way I would pay 126 dollars for a concert with no tailgating (hypothetically speaking, of course...I'm a lawn person).

If I'm paying over 100 bucks for a concert ticket, those gates better open up at 9 am!

To me it is to hear Buffett. The excitement in the parking lot is an added bonus

Not at all??

Maybe that's the reason he dropped The Woodlands for his tour??
There is never any tailgating.
:o Methinks Molly has found the secret reason why he doesn't come to Nashville anymore...no tailgating (except for scattered gatherings).

I go for the concert, but as BG says....the tailgating is the foreplay. And it's so gooooooooooooood! 8)

Been to many concerts where they dont even have a tailgate-still enjoyed the music-the older I get I realize the tailgating is still damn important but def need to have good seats to hear and feel the true JB experience and thats all about the music!!!!!!!

I've been to too many Buffett shows before I learned how to tailgate properly. I've experienced just the concert. I'd have to find somewhere to party all day prior to the show, if it ever comes to that.

Luckily I live in Colorado where tailgating isn't against the law. Nor do either of the venues where Jimmy has played more than others have a problem with tailgating.

I'd prefer to see Jimmy play outdoors, but the parking and facilities people at the Pepsi Center in Denver are great people. - great at answering questions via e-mail or phone prior to the show too.

I didn't really answer the questions directly, so I'll state this: ah hell, I don't know, I'm there for both, what surprise, a ParrotHead that loves the party and the concert?!?!

Well, not to overdo the foreplay angle, I think that the concert is a better experience after a long time of tailgating, but to tailgate without the concert would leave me unsatisfied :pirate:
On the other hand, I have just gone to concerts sober with no pre party and they have been great (in pavilliion, not doing lawn sober again). The music is the main focus for me, to hear an old song he hasnt played in a while and maybe catch the passion he displays in those moments is worth it.
It is a great total experience, like tailgating for a Bears game but not in 4 degree temperatures!!

As Jimmy said at Alpine a few years ago "I am glad my music is the backdrop to one hell of a party"

In all actuallity, most of the concerts I have went to had no tailgating. NOT because it was banned...it is because it just was not done.

I enjoy the camaraderie and the zanieness and meeting people while tailgating ( Just I wish more people had real beer to drink instead of that Mexican Rat p***!!! ) The FOP saved my life and my tastebuds, last year THANK YOU FOP!!! They had a concession selling beer at the tailgating.
They were truly "Angels of Mercy" in my eyes!

Honestly I do like both and I would see him again with no tailgating if the price of tickets were reasonable.

Someone pointed out in another thread that in order to get to the parking lot at one venue...you must have a ticket to enter. So I have no idea how it breaks down . Meeting and seeing people along with the food and craziness/zanieness/fellowship, have become part of the concert and really are just as important as the concert itself.
Just like those of us that have seen JB before and cannot justify the high cost of a ticket....we can hear him anytime we choose. He is only a cd away. The same as being there to hear him live? Perhaps not....but all things considered......just how many times must one see "the same show"? Once is enough for many people and it matters not if there is or is not tailgating allowed.

Why do you go to a Buffett concert?

Because Jimmy is still coming around.
No, he doesn't always come to my "backyard" but he still comes "around".
Like many others have posted, "It's the friends that we all have made."

This post has me wondering about what a Buffett concert is worth. With other high level acts that charge as much or more that Jimmy, you get concert only. But many have stated here it is a very unique event that lasts all day and night, get together with old friends and meet new at one daylong party. Plus a pretty damn good show most years.
If this is the case, isnt the value of a ticket higher that a "normal" concert. I also wish Jimmy kept his prices below market value, but given that we had so many years of low prices before now, I can live with it. If 8 hours of tailgating, plus a 2 1/2 hour show is not worth more than say 1 1/2 hour of U2 or some other group that doesnt play near as long as Jimmy, I dont know what is.
I go for the music and the party, so for the two events, it it worth the money.
Not bashing anyone, just my opinion.

A single Jimmy Buffett concert is worth $847.63

To YOU perhaps or MAYBE.... but not for everyone else out there. I have seen Jimmy live for less than $10.00 and got to see a vbaseball game as well. I paid less than $ 30.00 to see him live center stage 3rd row floor.

I paid something like $75.00 to see him the last time, ( No lawn seats available in that venue) last year.

I know people that have paid $3,000.00 to sit front row to see him and tell me I need to do it at least one time. I cannot and will not do it. Not for him....not for anyone.

IMNSHO paying such prices to see anyone, is nothing less than scheer madness. But it is their money to do with as they choose. AS long as the people are willing and keep paying that kind of money, it ruins it for others that are not as fortunate or have drawn the line line to say enough is too much.

Call me whatever names and tell me "I don't get it" if you like, but at least I saw him at most reasonable costs, which I will lay odds you cannot say.
I have said elsewhere not everyone can justify the expense for a few hours. Have you figured out that $847.63 cents at per hour or minute while the concert atually lasts?

Yep, so while you help stick it to the little people you are feeding scalpers and "The Man" and increasing the price of the ticket for everyone.
I definitely have better uses for $847.63 than ANY concert by ANYONE or ANY GROUP. But that is my money and not yours. Your money is yours to spend as you choose.

That is IMNSHO.
Thank you

I HAVE to go for the music.
The parking lot festivities are fun, but I can do the same thing here with the local parrotheads ANYTIME.
