Isn't it pretty much plain and simple about business relationships? This question is battered to death and so many theories about personal preferences are thrown out, but doesn't it make the most sense that JB's management simply has good relationships with different venues that in turn generate maximum revenue and that's why he chooses to play them?

So you are saying that as far as venues go... St. Louis is...RAGTOP wrote:4. 1. Riverport (or Clear Channel or whoever negotiated the contract for the venue) tried to haggle with him over his base salary, concessions, parking, etc. He was not to happy since all of the other venues 'bucked' up and paid.
2. After the stage was setup, Maryland Heights fire came in and told him he had to move parts of the stage because it was a fire hazard. Needless to say he wasn't happy with that.
Other reasons I can guess for no St. Louis.
1. I don't think Riverport sold out in 2001, why go if you can't maximize your income?.
2. JB is not a fan of the tornados and 'green skies' that went past Riverport the last time he was here.
3. Riverport wouldn't budge on the no-tailgating rule.

Okay, let's not get into city bashing. Save that for the football season
Parrotheads are great people wherever they may come from. It was just an observation that the Northeast and Great Lakes get shows every year, and often at the same venues, while other regions, mainly in the West, don't get many shows at all. But I agree, it's likely because it DOES work and management does have a relationship with these venues.
Let's face it, seeing a Buffett concert is an experience, and part of that experience is enjoying all that goes with it, including tailgating, dancing in the lawn, etc. Some venues are set up for "the experience" and some are not. Alpine, Great Woods, and Riverbend are ready. As for KC, I only mentioned it because it's a working class town that I think would throw a pretty good party. But, I'm not sure if Verizon is ready. It's on th Kansas side and rather strict with the alcohol. Kemper is an indoor arena built in the stone age (and as far as I'm concerned, "the experience" is best enjoyed outdoors anyway).
Seeing Jimmy is like taking a cruise. Half the fun is traveling someplace new. We flew to Cleveland a couple of years ago. Never been there before and had no reason to go other than to see a Buffett show. We had a blast. Wouldn't have been the same had we just drove a couple of hours, saw the show, and then went home.
Now, as for the best football city.... (should I mention I'm from Wisconsin).

I've heard some of that. Local PHs like to think it's other reason No. 3.

The first two are definately reasons he hasn't been back to St. Louis. Riverport management are notorious for hassling the acts.Limes&Parrots wrote:I've heard a couple rumors why he hasn't come to St. Louis in several years. And I always figured a big reason was the no tailgating rule, too.

"So on the way home from work I am listening to the radio station that was a sponsor of the 2000 tour in St.Louis and they are spreading rumors of Jimmy playing the brand new Busch Stadium as the first concert ever to be held there. Forty six thousand Parrotheads down by the river in my neighborhood! Phins are crossed"
I did see this posted on the new tour & rumors thread. This would definitely solve the 'dealing with Riverport' issues and the stage setup issue.

I think he's a baseball fan (Cubs primarily) who couldn't pass up the chance to play Fenway. Hell, as a Yankee fan, I wouldn't either.Ilph wrote:He's also a Red Sox fan, but you sure do see him in New York quite a bit.WWJBD? wrote:Jimmy is a Cubs fan...he has no business going to St. Louis.

Why? I don't think it makes any difference at all where his band members come from.... Where he plays simply boils down to his preferences and his business decisions....Limes&Parrots wrote:You'd hope anyway.spartan1979 wrote:You'd think with the Mayer brothers being from St. Louis, he'd play here once in a while.
