Spiffy Hats for Concerts......

Post by purpleskye »

Hey Everyone!!!

Last time I was in Vegas, I noticed many peeps with really cool homemade Parrothead hats......I know that there are vendors sometimes making the straw ones and selling them-but this year I am hoping to create a unique one of my own......
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on to how they got theirs started??.......
I wont go so far as to have a blender on my head but any creative tips/places to shop would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
THANKS!

All good Parrothead hats evolve. Start with something you like, and add something to it before each show.

Start with a good solid Straw Hat! (most important)

Get some nick-nacks!

And get to work woth a hot glue gun!

Teach him how to cuss,
And pull the cork out of a bottle of wine.

First thing to remember- you have to wear it on your head the whole time if you want to keep it, so make sure it's light. And it will pi$$ the people behind you off if it's too high.

And honestly, in my experience, it's really cool for about 10 minutes, then it just sucks.

it doesnt s*** as long as it's not too heavy. that is what will make it s***. but you are right about having to wear it the whole time if you dont want it taken.

A few years ago I cut the bottom off of a pinata. It worked well, except I was with my older brother, who of course though it was great fun to push it down over my head! I went for a T-shirt, and on the way back some drunk guy bought it from me for $20. I think it was less than $10 for the thing, and I was mostly glad to be rid of it, other than what my hair looked like.

And I am sure (at least I hope!) she took the motor out of the blender!!

Comfort is the key, and a willingness to take it off during the show if it obstructs anyone's view. Get a good hat that you can "build" on, and look for trinkets to add at craft, scrapbooking, and liquor stores! :D

I think mine is pretty spiffy, and I've had many people offer to buy it for up to $300.00, when it cost less than $20.00 to make. My family (and probably some of you) think I'm nuts for saying no, but I like that it's a 1 of a kind! :D

Have fun!

I had offers for the cool one that I wouldn't take (that was a heavy pain in the butt), but the parrot pinata I hacked the legs off of was fair game!

Last year I had a guy come up to me in the venue in Cinci and offer to buy my beads. He was actually serious. Silly thing, they wouldn't have gone with the suit and tie he had on..

I had a great palm leaf hat made by a street person in Key West, came out great. I haven't added on to it yet, but am thinking about it.

That craft foam stuff is really good for embelishing and its really brightly colored. It comes in 8 1/2" x 11" sheets. Plus its really light weight

I started with a Cheeseburger hat that I got at Margaritaville in Key West about 10 years ago and add a new thing every concert. Normally that is a "Thong" I have acquired in the parking lot for my coconuts. Doesn't please the wife but it is harmless entertainment.
