Not hard at all to do. Just have to build to scale for your vehicle. My fin took me about two hours to build start to finish, not counting the painting. That took a while as I had to create stencil, cut it out and paint it.

Here's some pix to give you an idea of a very sturdy build for a pick up. I run this bad boy down the expressway at 70+mph enroute to shows and have never had a problem. I will say that for safety sake, I pop a couple of long wood screws through the fin, right where it meets the base and into the brace wood. It was measured to fit precisely in between the slots from left to right and top to bottom. The wood are 2x6 with long bolts and nuts holding it all together.

It stands about 6' out of the bed of my truck over the top of the cab and catches a lot of attention on the way to shows that I've run it to in MI, WI, OH and IL. Beats the crap out of a sindow cling fins up sign that most people have. :)

Lastly, I'l say that I run it TO the shows only. I take wrenches, a ratchet and hammer with me to take it apart before leaving the lot after the show. It slips right under the braces (still together) into the bed of the truck nicely, then I load all my gear on top of it for the trip home.

For a car, I'd recomend building a base out of pvc and wrap it in that foam that you wrap plumbing pipes with so it doesn't rub the roof of your car all up.

Good Luck!

The fin decoration is a nice compliment for a show, but my plate is with me year around.

I get that window paint in as many colors as I can find, then draw a palm tree, margarita glass, sayings that have to do with the tour name ON THE GLASS ONLY, not on the car paint. It'll ruin the paint. I did a great tiki god one year that I'm extremely proud of. I also put the words, "Buffettnews" and "Buffett or Bust" on the back hatch glass.
I attach fringe to the underside of the bottom of the hatchback so when I close the hatch, the fringe shows under my license plate. It lasts because there's less wind there. At the concert I attach my giant fin to the top of my car by utilizing the ski racks.
I lllllove going down the highway on the way to the concert city and having cars beeping away, giving the "fins up" sign, taking pictures, yelling out the windows. I am now in the process of coming up with what kind of pictures to draw for this year's concert. I'm sure I'll have an 'earth' on there, with "Party at the end of the World" under it.
Or "Party at the end of the HOOT" with an owl !!!!!!!!!
OH! Or a rendering of an owl with a rastafarian hairdo/hat on it and the words, "HOOT, mon" under it..     how sad is it when you crack yourself up??? :o
