WHEN Jimmy Buffett comes to play Cricket Pavilion on April 18 , no-one could have predicted that the GodFarther of parrotheads next appearance in the Phoenix area will be his last.
Never mind that he at the of aged 59, he had his first video “Trip Around the Sun", a collaboration with Martina McBride, becoming a number 1 hit on CMT's Top 20 Countdown. Or just in 2003 he had his first number one hit with Allen Jackson “It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere” Even selling out his concerts because of the following that he has built with years of his life had been spent on the road.
Looking back, the giveaway was probably the fact the name of the tour “Party At the End of The World” Mr.Buffett is quoted in saying “Since this is my Farewell Tour I thought it would be fun to bring the magic back of the olden days when I just starting touring. It will be back memories for the band, the fans, and hopefully myself.
But now the 60-year-old Beach Bum will be on what is billed as his last ever concert tour, stopping off at Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, one of just 19 dates on the farewell tour.
He had quickly established his own style in the early '80s, taking the relaxing sounds of the tropics and integrating them with rock, country and jazz. By combining the sounds with a youthful verve and vivacity that simply oozed excitement and, of course, his own Margaritaville to develop his own style of music that no one can ever copy.
Over the years he has notched up numerous hits on the country charts and finally has won Grammy in 2005. He has had queues of big name artists lining up to record with him, including Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Martina McBride, and of course Fingers who is rumor to come back and play with Jimmy on the final leg of the tour.
His pivotal '70s and '80s recordings are all available through his own Mailboat l, and you can marvel at those thrilling falsetto vocal swoops and lyrics that still sound so fresh today.
But I still find myself going back to my first concert in 1979 where, backed by the the Coral Refeers, he became an leader and turned many city dwellers in to locals of the nation of Margaritaville by the beautifully-crafted songs with the most heartfelt singing
It's not retirement, nor even abdication. But after this year,Jimmy Buffett, have a rest - you deserve it.
But Of course this is April 1, 2006 and this is my semi true story
