According to the guys on CSI  your garbage is no longer your privat property once it's in the can on the curb.

Take what you want - just don't make a mess.

In other words, leave my garbage looking neat and tidy, the way you found it.

Cheers.

Thanks.. thought you were going with the "living room" and the "plastic-covered furniture" room from the 1950s motif. :D

We shred everything that's private and recycle like good citizens. Twice a year, our municipality has clean-up days when trucks will take old furniture and larger items, exceptions being fridges or items that need an environmental sticker to show that it has no freon or HFC-134a (1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane) left in it. Tires must be returned to a depot for recycling. Only empty dry paint cans can go. No other chemicals. There's a special day for that!
Any big stuff that people have use for, even for scrap metal, is theirs for the taking from our place.

Where I live you have to call Village Hall and make an appointment for large items to be picked up.

When I bought my house there were 4 cases of institutional size (1 gal) cans of nacho cheese sauce in the crawlspace. This stuff was so old that the labels on the cans of the top box, which was open, had faded to white. I had to open another box to see what they were. So I put it by the curb and someone actually took 4 cans of it! I cannot even IMAGINE the stomach ache that person had.

hey... if the cans were still sealed tight, I'll bet that crud was still "delicious"

or maybe they just used it as pothole filler
