Matter of fact - I just spoke with Link today (owner of the Tequila Barrel)!
You should SEE what he's done to the back room of the bar! OMG - it's awesome! Live music 7 nights a week, stage, dance floor - there's even a stripper pole!

Every Monday and Tuesday night from 9-10 is
Ladies Night = free drinks! I was there in Dec, March and I'll be sitting at the Tequila Barrel yet again in less than 48 hours - wooooo hoooo!
The Blue Parrot is back up and running with a new palapa. It was only closed for about a week - before the palapa went back up, it was just open air. Still might take 20 minutes to get a drink on a busy night though!

Oh, and NO MORE fire dancers in Playa at all anymore.

I'll have to remember that. I'd like to go there someday. Right now, it's looking like it's St. Kitts and we'll be paying the airfare and not using frequent flyer miles.

Any other "insider" tips you can give, would be great. Good places to eat, drink, etc.

Mon wrote:I guess $506/person for airfare to St. Kitts isn't TOO bad, considering we will be staying for free

It just stinks that we can get to both Aruba and Cancun with our frequent flyer miles, but not St. Kitts.

I have not finished reading this thread so maybe this has been suggested but......
can you use the FF points to San Juan and then purchase an inter-island ticket yourself?

Plenty of place along either stretch of the beaches.
Atlantic or Caribbean side that is.
Mr X's Shiggidy Shack is great with a cool bar.
When you walk out the back side of the Marriott go to the left on the beach and you'll come upon the Angelus resort. THey have a great little tiki hut type bar with daily lunch and some cool locals. Ask for Shabba.
Like I posted earlier we met some great people at Sugar's night club.
The center of town has some neat vendors. They really are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
PM me anytime with any questions

If you choose Cancun stay at the Aventura Spa Palace or the Bahia Principe in Tulum. Aventura is adult only but Bahia as far as food blows it away. Aventura has a spa and golf course on premise but both are EXPENSIVE and are not included. Definitely do the Isla Mujeres tour and the Tulum Ruins tours. Go to Coba not Chitzen Itza because you can still climb Coba. Cancun/Playa Del Carmen are great night spots but the beaches are just so-so. The beaches toward Tulum are much better and less crowded.
Never been to Aruba or St. Kitts so I can't comment on the differences.

If you go to St. Kitts - which doesn't have much in the way of amenities but is VERY relaxing- BE SURE to spend an afternoon at Turtle Beach. It's not too far from the Marriott, although as the cab takes you there you'll swear you're about to get mugged on some deserted road by the driver.
The have a great beach, cold beer, good music, island food, a trained monkey that steals drinks, and a resident pig!! VERY "island" mon...!!!!

Enjoy!!

I would prefer St. Kitts, but we can't seem to get there with frequent flyer miles on the dates we have babysitters. Do we give in and go to ARuba or Cancun or s*** it up and pay the airfare to St. Kitts?
St. Kitts = beautiful, relaxed, quiet island setting.
Aruba = Americanized playground.
Cancun = Party spot with a beach.
I would pick St. Kitts in a pair of seconds and highly recommend it.
Just my .02 cents worth...

Thanks for all the input. We were looking for the quiet, relaxed setting we found on St. John. I hope we find what we are looking for when we head to St Kitts. We are going in 26 more days!!!!!
