To be honest I don't generally post on any boards. Didn't know there was an etiquette course one had to endure to post on one either. I thought it was a public forum for Buffett fans to post their views. I do think that I qualify as a fan and always found that Parrot Heads (if not Jimmy himself as some of you have suggested) to be environmental and civic minded people.

I seem to stand corrected.

I'll be sure to dumb it down in the future.

I am not sure where some folks get the idea that Jimmy is a huge enviromental activist. Sure, he has some pet-projects but I have never seen him out there beating the drum.

We recently has someone trying to protest the addition of cell-phone antennaes on our office building....but, the guy was wearing a cell phone on his belt. I just don't get some people....and I am sure some just don't get me! :o
Jimmy isn't beating the drum for the enviroment????!! WTF? SAVE THE MANATEE. Did you ever listen to "Everlasting Moon"?

I understand the Jimmy is a businessman. I am too. But I sure won't sell my soul to the devil for a buck. And exactly how much money does one need and at whose expense? Jimmy makes TONS of money...Im sure that in his grand scheme (and I go to many of his concerts every year buy his tequila and visit his restraunts) I am sure that some plastic tiki bar doesn't have all that much impact on his bottom line.

I have to say that I am more than disapointed. I thought that the people on this board would be a bit smarter than to fall victem to the "Walmart is cheap so they can't be bad" ideology. But hey.....I suppose as Mark Twain once said:

Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn't any. But this wrongs the jackass.
- Notebook, 1898
Just because I disagree with you, does not make me a jackass. You have your views, I have mine. You said what you wanted to say, but I don't think you should expect everyone to feel the same way. No need to get personal.

You are all right....Im sure that PBS had a HUGE agenda in their expose' on Walmart and their enviromental and worker abuses. And I don't want or need to make friends here. If you don't want to realize that the Walmart culture (and yes there are many many other big box retailers but none as big or as bad) is killing America (watch what happens when your beloved Walmart moves into banking with no federal insurance) you need to get you heads out of the sand.

Here is the rub....everyone go and have an early morning Margarita on me....cause this is my last post on this board. But lay off the wake and bake.

I'm sorry to hear that PH Dan! I honestly hope you reconsider. For whatever reason, activist issues don't generally go over well here on BN... but there is a plethera of other topics that may be of interest to you. I probably learn something new every day!

WOW....I guess that was supposed to be a one-sided statement, not subject to debate?

Where is it written that one's first post has to be some sort of fluff like that? What in the world is the matter with speaking your mind on a subject? If someone wants to speak out about Buffett's affliation with Wal Mart and Sam's on their very first post they should go for it, first post or not. Just be careful not to mention Songs You Know By Heart, Fingers or God forbid, mispell Buffett or the response will be altogether different.
I think my first through about my fifth post was "fluffy" and then I think it was Ringling2 that slammed me for something. . . now I'm just as rambunctious as the rest of you characters!
I wouldn't call it slamming...

Where is the debate Mike? I was attacked for being topical in my post. No debate there. All I did was suggest that people might want to get involved in a topic that directly effects everyone of us....and (GASP) actually read or take time to watch a documentary that they might (GASP AGAIN) learn somthing from about the company that they are buying things from. You may not beleive that Walmart is the most underhanded and destructive forces in this country but I would encourage you to atleast look at the facts and not just low prices.

Now I'm done

There was a similar one here...
http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... 00&start=0

(edit: the debate begins on page 4)

You're not alone in your thoughts, but there is a lot of opposition here too.

Is that also not allowed or considered bad "netiquette"? As far as I know all a person needs to do is be a Buffett fan in order to post here. Hell, you don't even have to be that but it probably helps. And who cares if it says "newbie" under your name? That doesn't necessarily mean you're new to Buffett but that you're instead new to this message board.

As for Buffett and how he goes about supporting his causes, as I've said, one doesn't have to be in the public spotlight to that. I imagine he does a lot behind the scenes and doesn't need the publicity to help feed his ego.
