This is what I gather from it. It's not supposed to be Jimmy Buffett Radio, it's supposed to reflect Jimmy's tastes in music. He's said several times (and it's referenced on the RM website) that the point of RM radio is to be like old pirate radio, where you play what you (being Jimmy Buffett) enjoy and want to hear.

Think about this:Why would the man want a radio station that plays nothing but his own music? RM is an attempt to share the music Jimmy loves with the people that love Jimmy, for people to see what inspires and entertains him (and like-minded people).

I find it interesting to listen and hear songs that I would never hear anywhere else.

I understand completely but it seems that those that only want to hear Buffett and other tropically flavored music apparently don't get that.

Isn't that the point of the satellite channels...to serve a smaller niche market?

I don't mind RM programming a wide selection and variety of music. It's Jimmy's sandbox, he can play what he wants. But I don't blame subscribers who are looking for "tropical music" to expect it from RM, especially if that is all Sirius offers in that vein.

My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my Buffett stuff for what I said I paid for it!

The biggest gripe from prior Sirius subscribers is that RM replaced the Vacation Channel (?)...which played almost 100% tropical music (NOT trop-rock, Buffett, etc).

Personally, I used to listen to the Vacation Channel (?) via DishNetwork and it played TOO much tropical music for my taste.

As someone once said, you can't please all the people all the time!

Yes, but apparently that isn't the aim of the Radio Margaritaville Channel. I'm guessing if folks want the Vacation Channel back they should take that up with the Sirius folks. It's not Radio Margaritaville's fault that their musical needs aren't being met.

It's not like Sirius is pimping it as a "tropical music" channel. Directly from their website:
Escape to Margaritaville. Parrotheads, your ship has come in. From multi-platinum singer, songwriter and author Jimmy Buffett comes a radio paradise of great music, live broadcasts of Buffett’s concerts and other unique programs.

What we play: Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Little Feat, Bob Marley, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, Harry Belafonte, The Eagles and many more.

How much of a role do you think that Jimmy really plays in choosing the format and lineup?

I am guess probably very litte.

I would rather hear more Buffett and other CRB music over the other non Buffett stuff they play on Rm but that is just my opinion. I really like hearing an old Buffett song that I have either never heard or not heard in a while. Between his own music and his bands music he has enough to cover a full station worths of music. Just my thoughts.

I would say in the beginning he had a lot of say and hands-on involvement, but now I assume it's mostly independent of him. Sure he stays involved, but the RM people have become self-sufficient and able to make programming choices based on the guidance from Jimmy in the early days of RM. I'm sure they still ask Jimmy on a regular basis what he's listening to, so they can get a wider variety of programming to choose from.

If I had to guess, I'd say Savannah Jane has as much to do with programming as anyone. Maybe not making the programming schedule, but giving it guidance and a general mold to fill musically. Just my opinion.
