. .Happy Easter to all my BN family . .! !

.I was just thinking about some Easter memories with my kiddos many years ago when they were little . .

. .thought I would share . .and ask you to do the same . .

. As my keets were in their teens, I had run out of clever Easter Basket ideas . .so the year they were 12 and 16 . .we all went to my Mom's house for an Easter Egg Hunt . .

I bought a large package of plastic eggs and about $50 of rolled coins. . and filled each egg with various amounts of coins . .I sprinkled them across the back yard . .and then the fun begins. . .

it was too easy to just have them " run and snatch " . . .so I tied their ankles together with two of my Daddy's old ties. .

. .they had to hop for their loot . . ! !

. .we truly never laughed so hard. . ! ! . . . all of us . . .! ! they were Hell-bent to beat each other to the eggs so it was usually two hops and fall . . two hops and tumble. . ! ! . .then they just started crawling all over each other . . .! !

. . they were giggling and squeeling so loud . .it was like a yard full of 4 year olds. . ! !

. .     . .

When we were little the bunny would leave tracks through the house (flour, the side of my mom's hand and three fingers for the toes), we'd follow the tracks til we found the baskets.

. .cute. . ! !

. .that one reminded me of another trail . .

. . again, they had gotten used to the same Easter Basket in the same chair routine . . so one year I left this note . .

" . .You've been good, now that's the scoop . . .to find your prizes, follow the " poop " . ! ! "

. I had left a trail outside to their prizes . . with cotton balls . .! !

When my kids became teens they felt they were too old for the traditional egg hunt, so we came up with the idea of leaving a trail of clues throughout the house, for each of them to follow to their own basket of goodies.

We'd start with something obvious like a written note on the diningroom table containing a riddle. They'd have to solve the riddle (math problems, word scrambles, dates in history, etc) in order to find the location of the next clue. Depending on how creative and energetic we were feeling, the clue trail could sometimes be as long as 10 clues before they'd finally get to the location of the basket.

We'd hide the clues anywhere and everywhere (in books on the bookshelves, kitchen drawers, freezer, WORD files on computers, etc) and we made it harder as they got older. Were we cruel? :D

It kept some of the fun of easter egg hunts in their lives as they were getting older and more "sophisticated" - "too cool" for the kid stuff.

Sounds like torture for them but I think they always had a good time.

Cheers.

Egg hunts are great, but it's important to remember where the eggs are hidden (especially if you use real eggs).

One time there was an egg hunt where some eggs were forgotten. One of them was hidden in a flue pipe that vented exhaust gas from a water heater. A few months later the water heater quit. The repairman found the egg in the flue pipe, and when it cracked open he almost died from the stench.

I may have to use some of these ideas!

I only have one Easter that sticks in my memory... I was probably in 3rd or 4th grade, and was all dressed up to go somewhere, maybe even church. (It had to be something extraordinary like that because I was in a dress, and that only happened a few times in my childhood, for church or weddings!  )

I was ready to go, but waiting for others, so I went to the vacant wooded / cattail lot across the street with some matches, and set a little fire to pass the time. (A rather common occurrence in my youth, which I think may have ended on this day.) Well, it was a windy day, and I learned that wind spread flames quickly in a very dry lot, and next thing I knew, I had a big ol blaze going!! I can still picture my brother running down from the house with buckets, wearing his red toughskins and yelling at me! :o oops! We were grabbing water out of the lake to try to stop it from burning down our friends house nextdoor to the lot, but we were overwhelmed. Fortunately, the firetrucks made it in time!!

Learned a lesson that day anyway! DO NOT PLAY WITH FIRE! (especially when it's windy!)

Happy Easter everyone!

(I posted this pic in the Oar House, but thought it'd work here too!)

I remember always having a new jump rope, waterpaints and marbles. I always liked jellybeans better than chocolate.

When the kids were younger we did the usual Easter egg trail.......trails of Candy from their bedrooms down the stairs and all thru the house.

Then the egg hunt with all the cousins outside.....they all loved that.

I used to have (well still have but no longer use) an Easter wreath made entirely of those plastic eggs..The first easter I stopped using it my niece said "Auntie I miss it soooooo much  " I can't wait for her to get an apartment or house or married.......guess what she's getting as a gift

And....The only time I ever ran out of gas was the first Easter I had a car.....

Was a passenger in a car that did a couple 360 degree turns in Maine on our way heading out to go home on Easter morning. (I was reminded of that BG & Topless)

Um..........Best Easter was, you guessed it.........the one we spent in Fla a few years ago :)

A wierd one.........One Good Friday, the clouds and sunset made a formation of the three crosses on a hill,

And on another Easter Sunday when I was real little....maybe 5 or 6 yrs. old I saw a rabbit in our back yard........Someones must have escaped!!!!!

Ok I think that's the Easter Memories from me

My mom did this for me too...and I do it for Mollie and did for Jim...

My Easters have gotten lost...
In 1994, I had my gall bladder removed on Good Friday. Easter was a morphine blur. The 1995, Jim had chickenpox. Then 1996, I did. Then 1997, my neice, whom I had custody of, did too!! Then 1999, I was on bed rest due to complications with my pregnancy with Mollie...this year...I'm cooking, eating and hunting with the kids! Only happy, non-ill thoughts!

We always celebrated the major holidays with the traditional things and a big meal, of course all documented with photos. The best one ever was my brother posed in his pajamas with his basket of eggs ... with his fly open!

Living in Wisconsin, it's difficult to have an easter egg hunt in the backyard, since half the time there's still snow on the ground. We usually woke up with a basket hanging from the bedpost. Then there was church and going to the grandparent's house for the big family gathering.

tho there was that one year that I ate too many black jelly beans..... lets just say they had an unexpected side affect.
