Call me naive, but I did not know such people as these existed. Explain again? They hate their own country because gays live there? BOY! There is no country in the world where there are all straight people. And they have the gall to protest at a dead soldier's funeral??? THAT is freedom of speech?

I know we are all preaching to the choir (I hope!), but come on. I may not support the ideals behind the war in IRAQ (got no problem getting rid of a government actively supporting terrorists) or like the reasoning as to why we went to war, but I sure as hell hope its mission success (ironically so that THEY can do more protesting) and that we get our boys and girls home safely.
If you want to protest the reasoning behind the war, fine. That's guaranteed by the first amendment and you have the right to not agree with the gov't.
But when you want harm inflicted on your own troops, the line was crossed wayyyy back.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Maybe I missed it, but in the last three years of peace marches and protests against the war in Iraq made by those folks arguably on the Left, I don't think I've EVER seen anyone celebrating American combat casualties.
Maybe Rev. Fred and his rightwing coreligionists at Westboro Baptist could learn a thing or two from those on the Left about the responsible exercise of their First Amendment Rights.
Cheers.

I think they all could learn a lot from either side of the aisle. And as much of a pinko commie as I am, I don't think it's right to call them right-wingers- these people have left the building, and the right wing shouldn't be insulted like that.

You've never heard of these folks? Lucky you. Phred runs a family cult, though a few siblings have left with horrid stories to tell. They weren't getting enough press boycotting funerals due to AIDS (and add to the fact that more heterosexuals are getting it now then homosexuals and young hemophiliacs have a safer (but not perfect) supply of their meds...) so they had to step up the idiocy, and the funerals of service men and women will do it.tikitatas wrote:Call me naive, but I did not know such people as these existed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rev._Fred_Phelps has a decent rundown of this freak.

This is not the first we have heard of these idiots and I hope it's the last, but I know better. If you look at their website and see what they stand for it all boils down to hate! Their website list soldiers and sailors by name who have died and praise the insurgents who have caused their death. These people need to just go away and never be heard from again.
No quarter given!
