The Rev. Fred Phelps is apparently the Reactionary Right's answer to the so-called Looney Left, judging by the way his followers have been spreading the Good Word that God hates America almost as much as He hates Gays:

Image

A nice little postcard of his congregation attending a U.S. serviceman's funeral. Forget about John Walker Lindh - these bigots are The Real American Taliban.

I sure hope these folks never run things!

Cheers.

I'd just like to point out that the flags in the above picture are being carried by the Patriot Guard Riders, a group that provides a priceless service in keeping these WBC assholes away from the grieving families of our fallen heroes.

REPULSIVE

In this country we have the right to protest, stand up for what we believe and speak out against what we see as being wrong.
I fully support your right to do this but this picture with a woman holding a sign, "Thank God for IEDS." is the most repulsive thing I have seen in a long time.

That sign is one of the tamer ones they use. I won't give the WBC the satisfaction of posting the others.

Improvised
Explosive
Device

Roadside bombs that kill people in Iraq are IEDs. The people in that photo are praising IEDs because the devices killed soldiers who were serving a country (OURS) that allows people to be homosexuals...... :-? :-? :-?

While I support free speech all the way, I would also support a good sniper in that instance.

I always wonder if these people have anything better to do with their time than to promote hatred like this. But then, I guess, apparently not.

I always understood that an individual's right to free speech ends when it causes harm to another individual. I just can't imagine the harm it would do to see someone praising the pi$$ant coward that planted the IED that killed your son, daughter, brother, sister, etc. at their funeral.
I'd have to draw a line in the sand before we ever got there.

We just joined the local chapter here. Hopefully, there will be no need for the services any time soon.....it's a great bunch of people, though.

Very good point. But then, I guess if you're supporting a cause like that, you pretty much don't care about anyone else's feelings.

"Harm" doesn't include hurt feelings. (In NO WAY WHATSOEVER am I endorsing these people) It typically has to do with physical harm, like shouting fire in a crowded theatre may cause someone to be trampled...

I typically try not to get angry when people protest or show their opinion in legal ways. These people want people to respect their views, while not having the decency to respect those in mourning.... It really p*** me off....

yes the traditional example has always been shouting fire in a crowded theater but I'm sure there are mental health experts out there who would argue that such a thing could certainly cause long lasting "harm" WAAAAAY over and above simple hurt feelings. If it caused a child a life of mental struggles as a result, would that be considered harm? If a parent with a serious heart condition had complications as a result of seeing such a hideous protestor taunting them with signs like that at their child's funeral, would that be considered harm. The case could be made

I believe I read this morning that they are due to be somewhere in Illinois this week protesting at a funeral---absolutely dispicable!!!
