A featured album per show this year...

Here you can discuss any Buffett related topic.

I like the idea in theory....but with my luck I am going get stuck at a show featuring an album I don't hold in high regard......that would be very disappointing. Even more so because it is only one show this year for me.

Wish he'd announce what albums would be featured at what shows. It would curb some of the stress/wondering, or if its something like High Cumberland Jubilee (which has exactly two songs I can stomach)...I could work may way into accepting it before I get there.

And yes, on things like this I am a pessimist.
I would gladly take the HCJ show! 8)

You know, working at CIP for the last year, I hear a lot of old Buffett music. Before that, I had forgotten just how good some of the songs from HCJ and DTE are. I'd take those shows, too! Or even "Rancho Deluxe".

I have to believe he will save one of the really good ones with lots of old classics for GW since that's one of his favorite venues. I'll be at the Sat night show and my money is on A1A. I would settle for CILCIA or Coconut Telegraph...

I sort of wish he'd pick about 7-10 CDs and focus on those. Then you'd be guaranteed a good album. Here would be my picks:
A1A, Fruitcakes, Coconut Telegraph, OPH, Banana Wind, FSOTW, LTC (not minus the title track), A White Sport Coat, SOASOAS

Does anyone else think this must be extra work for the band? Rehearsing a LOT more songs.

They can do it, especially when there's plenty of other bands out there that don't play the same set list night after night. The Grateful Dead did it for years, certainly the Coral Reefers can pull it off.

One more thought -

I just counted the CDs on the discography - I really only come up with 24 he could conceivably feature. I leave out live recordings, compilations, Rancho Deluxe and the Christmas Island and I get:

Down to Earth
High Cumberland Jubilee
White Sportcoat
Living & Dying
A1A
Havana Daydreamin'
CILCIA
SOASOAS
Volcano
Coconut Telegraph
Somewhere over China
OPH
Riddles in the Sand
Last Mango
Floridays
Hot Water
Off to See the Lizard
Fruitcakes
Barometer Soup
Banana Wind
Don't Stop the Carnival
Beach House on the Moon
FSOTW
License to Chill

I also count 17 tour dates. That means there are about 7 CDs he will leave out. What are your picks for those?

Oops - make that 18 shows (I leave out Jazz Fest). So 6 he will cut.

LTC
FSOTW
BHOTM
DSTC
DTE
HCJ

First four because they are the newest, last 2 because they are the pre-"Beach Bum" days.
As for the 7th, I'd say maybe SOC, since he hasn't played anything from that album in a long time.

I doubt very seriously that Down to Earth, High Cumberland Jubilee and Don't Stop the Carnival are even taken into consideration to be played. He's largely ignored the first two throughout his career and Don't Stop the Carnival isn't a proper album in the sense of his other releases, it was more like a side project that stemmed from his work on the Don't Stop the Carnival musical production.

The fall tour dates haven't been released yet, so conceivably, he will even double up on some albums...

I hadn't thought of that, but if it gets him to play A1A at Alpine or Tinley Park, I'd be a very very happy parrothead.
