roller coasters
I have this fear of roller coasters that I need to conquer. I'm going to Disney/Universal at the end of the summer. I haven't been there in awhile and they've added alot of rides. I want to do Expedition Everest, Jurassic Park and some other coaster/flume rides. Does anybody have any tips for getting over this fear?
I get there and my heart starts pounding, I freak and get out of line. I don't want to do this this time.

i love roller coasters, so i'm not sure what help i can be. spinney rides are the ones that get me. i get on them, and then feel vomittish.
to me, though, roller coasters aren't askeery. just kinda like driving really fast. you're strapped in, and nothing bad happens. just up, down, loopdie loop, and you're done. maybe try one in the kiddie-area to warm yourself up.

I've never been afraid of them, but I love going on them really drunk.
Not sure if that would help you or not though.
Try something along the lines of what a therapist would have you do. Practice relaxing while you are lying down, when you get really good at relaxing, and you are almost about to fall asleep, start imagining that you are in line for a scary ride. Imagine the whole process like you are really there. Do this whenever you get a chance and it can help.

Hello my name is Capt.Flock and I am afraid of heights....
I did not ride a roller coater till I was 16 (even then I was forced on)
I still get nervous about riding but I love to feel the adrenaline rush afterwards. My advice is to start from the smaller ones and then move up to the bigger ones.
riding an amusement ride is one of the safest recreational activities. This is a fact. The number of people who are injured from drinking glasses is seventeen times that of the number of people injured on amusement rides. Some of the other more "dangerous" activities are: mowing a lawn, riding a skateboard, riding a bike, and playing billiards. All of these activities are statistically more dangerous than riding an amusement ride. Furthermore, because of the fact that rider misbehavior is the leading cause of accidents, the probability of an accident drops dramatically when a rider is safety-conscious. The more aware a rider is of safety, the less accidents there are, and the less accidents there are, the happier everyone is.

I was just at Epcot and Universal Studios this past week. We had a great time! I've never been afraid of rollar coasters, but I do tend to get motion sickness so I just pop a dramamine in the morning and then I don't have to worry about it. I usually just think about how many other people have rode the rides and nothing happened to them (I tried not to think about the lady and little boy that died after riding Mission Space at Epcot)!!!! We loved the Revenge of the Mummy, the Hulk, Test Track (not really a rollar coast), they're all so much fun and these parks even try to make standing in line fun with videos and props to look at. Try to relax and have a good time!!!!!

I love roller coasters....
I think it's a mental challenge.
I like Capt P's advice - SCREAM. It's FUN!
Let it out! Cut loose!
The coolest part is really after you get off the ride.
For me it's the adrelenine rush that floods over you and warms you from your hairs on your head to the tip of you toenails.
Mmmm.
I have seen Roller coaster simulation rides at places like Chuck E Cheese
(try to go during the day during the week when kids are at school -
call them first to see if they have one, different locations have different "rides".
)
....about that story above: there's always some thrillseeker that want's the thrill of flying out of his seat and doesn't fasten his seatbelt.
I certainly don't know what happened, but I do know that some coaster nuts will go too far for the thrill.
Just be sure you take all safety precautions.

I get the same way...panic attack and such in line, but just go with someone who you feel safe with and you should be fine...
I hate heights and won't go on the upside down stuff.....but the old wooden coasters are awesome!
Went on Halloween at night and it was soooooo cool...AND...they serve alcohol in the park so it was even better!
(I will admit that I screamed like a little b**** when I saw the scary clowns though....

The big "stomach drop" sensation when you go down the big hills is mostly a result of instinctively holding your breath.
When you're on the roller coaster, just concentrate on breathing steadily. Makes the whole experience less traumatic (or exciting.
Good luck.

Stick with the less acrobatic rides until you are comfortable with them.
I cannot ride the wilder coasters (stomach rebels) but there are plenty of rides in this town that won't shake you around too much.
The Jurrasic Park flume ride at Islands of Adventure is excellent
Spiderman at Islands of Adventure is considered by many to be the best ride in Orlando. Since it is virtual reality, rather than a real coaster, you can close your eyes if the 'motion' gets too much and the motion in effect stops.
Space Mountain at Disney's magic kingdom is not too extreme.
The Hulk and Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure are a bad idea if you are bothered by coasters.
The flume ride at Seaworld is OK, but not worth a real long wait, the coaster at Seaworld is a little much if you don't love coasters.
There are Lots of fun things to do at the parks without ever going on a coaster!

I Love coasters.....I've been going on them since I met the height requirement.

And Believe it or not, that first coaster was the Super Duper Looper at the age of 6Would this be a bad time to tell the story about my parents standing in line for the Super Duper Looper and seeing a guy fall out of the car and get killed?
