No Tailgating in Dallas?!?!?

Post by finsup2k »

This morning, I received the following email from Ticketmaster. This is ridiculous.

Hello, this is Ticketmaster Customer Service with an important alert for
your upcoming event. Jimmy Buffett scheduled at Smirnoff Music Centre on
Friday April 28th 2006 at 8:00pm.

Thank you for coming to see Jimmy Buffet at Smirnoff Music Centre on
April 28th. Traffic on Interstate 30 and Highway 75 as well as 2nd
Avenue leading to the venue can be quite heavy during weekday rush hour.
Traffic begins to get heavy as early as 4:00pm. We encourage you to
leave early for the show to ensure that you get to the venue in plenty
of time. The early access parking lot opens at 8:00am with normal venue
parking at 3:00pm. The doors will be o pening at 6:00pm with Jimmy
scheduled to hit the stage promptly at 8:00pm. (No opening act).

Tailgaiting must be confined to your car space and you must be packed up
and moving to the facility at 6:00pm. This will be enforced. This will
help you process quicker through the entry gates and help you from
potentially missing some of the show. Also, if you are holding lawn
tickets, this is your chance to get in early and claim your real estate.

This is a rain or shine event. We will allow umbrellas inside the
facility and suggest you bring a raincoat, just in case. If you have a
lown ticket we DO NOT allow lawn chairs to be carried in but they are
available to rent once inside. You may bring binocualars and a blanket,
towel or trash bag (or similar) to sit on. N signage over one square
foot.

Items NOT allowed inside the venue:cameras, large bags & backpacks,
laser pens, wallet chains, coolers, ice chests, outside f ood, beverages,
recording devices, or strollers.

One factory sealed plastic bottle of water allowed per person not larger
than one liter.

All beverages will be poured tnto plastic containers. No glass allowed.

Once inside the gates there in a No re-entry policy.

Thanks and enjoy the concert.

In fact, it says you CAN tailgate.

No, the email does not say "no tailgating". But it does say that the show starts at 8:00 p.m. and we are supposed to be "packed up" and moving into the facility at 6:00 p.m. It also says they're going to be "enforcing" these rules.

I can hear it now, "excuse me, sir, you're going to have to put your cooler away and go inside the venue now. That's enough tailgating."

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. Why in the world would I want to go into the venue two hours early?

My guess is they don't want a bunch of folks tailgating throughout the entire show. I think you'll be fine.

Ummm, I'd be thinking about the source of that message considering all the typos....

And of course it is just saying they want tailgating to be confined to your space, not that you can't do it. They are most likely just trying to make sure that people don't try and setup circus tents in the parking lot that get in the way of other patrons.

because then you would have time to buy their food and their drinks. if you were so inclined. shoreline has a no tailgating policy also. but if you pay an extra $20 for the premium lot, then you can do it there without being harassed by the mountain view cops.

Perhaps they have seen what WE have planned...
circus tents. .indeed...WE would not do that...now a giant water slide, hot tub, pool, rv,margarita machine, 2 generators,a 'non working' still, 4palms,a giant bubba bear, adn 4private portapottys, maybe...but certinally no circus tents!!! 8)

Two reasons...

1.) Lawn seating - first come first serve. You don't want patrons b!tching that they spent $50+ on lawn seats and couldn't see the show. They should know what they are getting, but someone always has to complain.

2.) To give people time to filter through the security lines. After the fiasco in Boston about people missing part of the show, this allows them to come back and say "well we told you to start going in around 6pm." At the Dallas show in 2004, I didn't get through security until about 15 minutes after the start of the show.

Feel free to drop your tailgating supplies by Hoot Island. We'll take care of them, and take any heat from the venue on being outside regs.

Just part of the service...

Welcome to my world of being a Georgia football fan. If you think this is strict, you ought to see what we'll be dealing with in Athens come September.
