I think the idea that more people vote for AI than vote in a presidential election is rather misleading. More votes may be cast but most only vote once in a presidential election, I've heard of kids voting more than 20 times for AI.

I am glad people enjopy the show.......I know there must be plenty of them .............and I am proud to say, I am not one of them....
I am not sure where Jackson Browne got his start but it was in the 70's ....maybe late 70s .......
I don't deny some people have a very good or alot of talent. Yet if I want to experience kareoke.........I will go to a bar and not watch it on tv.
CNF,
Yes I agree with you there, so see the whole voting for the AT winner as a fraud...... but I doubt everyone that called voted as such.
I don't see the fairness or the legitmacy in it.......Just like that guy got a a xontract wiith Sony.............I lost all and what little respect I had for such shows after that.
Yes I love to see new talent break into the music business.....I know of at least one or two people, that are quite good but never get the chance. Excellent writers and singers.
Meanwhile people like the guy that did
She Bangs are the ones making money.....

It's entertainment. Nothing more and nothing less.
Just like any other form of entertainment, some will be interested, and some won't.
It's just that simple.

They say the same about the wrestling, daytime soaps, and golf on tv too.....
It is like all of the "Reality" type shows...WHY are they on? They are what is passing for entertainment these days? No thanks.... It just take much thought to put something on and call it entertainment. People will buy anything and as P.T.Barnum is supposed to have said....
No wonder our society and world are in the shape they are.
No worries, if you like it and enjoy it, then by all means do so. Must be more than one person out there that does, however don't include me in that group. That is why there are different channels, the off button, and VHS tapes and DVDs. Different strokes for different folks. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all of that sort of thing.

I am sure you can. What I watch depends on the mood I am in and what is on. If I don't find anything on, that appeals to me I either put a DVD or VHS tape on, or maybe just go outside and watch the river go by. If nothing else, I always can find a good book to read or reread, rather than watch such brain dead garbage, that passes for entertainment these days.

Only when I look at you the same way everyone else does.
No doubt I do watch at least some of the brain dead garbage that the rest of the world does, depending on my mood.
There is a good show on occasionally and usually they don't last long. But by far, most of the stuff on tv is nothing but brain dead garbage. If "Nielsen" rated my tv, a lot of people would be highly dissapointed....
I don't watch any "reality" shows if that is what you mean or that "Fear Factor" or "JackAss" type crap. I don't watch MTV or VH etc channels.
I said it before if I want to hear kareoke....I go to a bar that offers it.
I have well over one hundred-fifty channels ( Not including any premium channels nor radio or cd/music channels) to choose from and mostly I have found that there is more on tv that I DON'T want to watch or listen to.

I do, and I will, Sam.
And no one included you in the group.
Those who were discussing the show are pretty much those who enjoyed watching it.

Bummer, VH1's Behind the Music is a well done documentary. Just found another very interesting reality show with entertaining personalities mixed with dangerous and interesting subject matter...."Into the Fire" documents the lives/work of various hot shots and smoke jumping units..My gain, your loss.
But to the point, Kareoke is a bit harsh since several of the Idol winners have done quite well for themselves. Unless you can Kareoke as they do, I believe they deserve a measure of respect for if nothing else, possessing the talent, and heading you off at the pass, a culturally accepted defined art. Rap music on the hand is garbage

Actually what I meant was I don't watch the music videos...Yes I have seen some good documentaries and what not on the VH1 ( or whatever number channel)... as for about jobs and what people do, some of them I watch, some I don't. They are not "reality" shows to me..... they are more of a documentary to me. No one is competing to win anything, other than to do their job as best they can and come home safe. So thoise shows give some actual insight about a life that they never have experienced or thought about. They can see actual dangers that the workers face everyday, say smoke-jumpers face or the dangers of fishing/crabbing in Alaska or other such jobs. I will admit THAT IS REALITY, but it has nothing to do with such "Reality" shows such as I have named previously.
What I mean by the reality shows like
Survivor and such... there is not much reality to them. They are filmed and edited and processed whatever, months ahead of time and the whole thing is over before it is aired. There is no reality to them.
I am not saying people that can do kareoke well do not have talent...I just don't understand why anyone gets so worked up over a tv show. If they have the intesinal fortitude to get up and show their talent and do well, GREAT!!! I wish them the greatest of success and no illwill whatsoever.
I know the music business is hard as hell to get into. I have a at least one friend that is an AWESOME writer and has some material that is OUTFREAKING standing and I am not saying that because he is my friend.
If you want PM me with the details and I will send you a cd of him. I am sure you would like it, he is sort of Buffettesque and his own. He is a Parrothead too.
So if that is how a person gets a break into the music business ok, but give me a break on some of them.... like that guy did the song "She Bangs" ( I think was the name of it) and got a several million dollar contract with Sony. That made the whole point of sucha show, ridiculous to me.
I hope you understand there are reasons for the way I feel about AI and type shows.
Again I don't understand the fasination or obsession with such shows. Some people love them and some people are apathetic about them.... I guess it is clear what category I fall into.
The last thing is if someone makes to top 5 or 10 or 100 or whatever...obviously they have talent.....maybe one likes all of them....how do you decide whose career you are going to make and whose career you are going wreck with the voting? BTW are the votes Free or do you have to pay to vote?

It's a show I can watch with my daughter and not worry about drugs, sex, violence or anything like that. She watches it with early teen eyes...."Oh, he's sooooo hot..." and I am reminded of my early teen years mooning over David Cassidy in the Partridge Family......it's fun for us and there's nothing wrong with having a little fun!

Ok and thank you. THAT I can understand. Why aren't more tv shows more like that then, inztead of getting cruder and more....for lack of a better term...."Pushing the Limit" of how far they can go with being explicit.
But what does the shpw teach anyone??? What do they learn from it? Is there some sort of underlying message their about it is up to everyone else to make your dream/reality become an "actuality" or something like that?
All I am saying is that people seemimgly bevome "mezmerized" or obsessed with such shows. NO it is not the only show such has happened with.
Don't we deserve far better? Or has our society just become that dumded down that we accept such and call it entertaiment and let it go at that???
