What would "Jimmy of yesterday" think about "

I recently loaded up my mp3 player with all the Buffett I have, and took off on a road trip that took several hours.
I had the player set on "play any song" and after a while was kind of struck by the differences in song topics and themes.
Example: A song ("Havana Daydreamin", I think, complete with Jimmy's semi-profane, drug-referencing intro) popped up from "You Had To Be There." That one was followed by "Good Guys Win" from the Hoot soundtrack.
Seemed like totally different ends of the spectrum to me.
Just got me wondering... what would "Jimmy of yesterday" think about what he's become - "Jimmy of today"
Any thoughts?

I think he would say "Wow, I'm successful, rich, my fans love me and I'm still good lookin ... cool"

I think the younger wouldn't care much for the Disney like theme the "Margaritaville" empire has become and probably dislike some of the stage antics the he has done in recent years.
Musically I think the Jimmy taste hasn't changed too much. The BIG difference is he doesn't write much of his own material anymore. When I listen to some of the new albums/cd's it's the songs that he has written that seem to be my favorites or the ones he's collaborated with Mac on.

I think he'd just say "holy sh!t!" and laugh.

I agree with Q & S - I think old Jimmy would be astounded at the way his life has gone and just feel very lucky.
Kind of glad he has tamed a bit tho.cause so have I,

Thought about this a while longer and can just imagine telling "yesterday Jimmy" how he turns out. He'd probably say something like...
"Well I'll be damned. I actually DO live through it!" Then he'd probably laugh, pick up his guitar and head on back to the boat.
Seriously, though, as he grew older, I think he DID grow up some, too. Of course, he probably had to. Even Hank Williams Jr. eventually realized that the hangovers hurt worse than they used to.

He'd say, "Given the chance, I'd probably do it again."

Ok, but what would the "old ______" say about each of us- I'm still under 30, and if you would've told my 21 year old self that I would fall asleep before 9pm on a Friday night (like I did last night), it would send her into cardiac arrest. He's gotten older, and with age comes a much different perspective on life (especially after a plane crash).

Think the recent deaths of his parents would have had an effect on him. Know that the unexpected & violent death of my prof. brother did on us 10 years ago. Makes you slow down and appreciate each day more, and realize how lucky you are that you have got to do what you might have done. ALSO makes you appreciate how unimportant things are, next to the people, the places, and the memories.

I agree 100%. If we were all the same person we were 10 years ago, or even 1 year ago, then we're not living. Yes, some people may look back and say "what was I thinking?" but at least we can look back and say that.
In my mind Jimmy's where he is now because of what he was years ago. And he still rocks, even if he does play a few more covers, has a disney-like empire (which isn't a bad thing - i used to work for disney! it's a well known name - nothing wrong with that at all!), and isn't writing all of his material. He's still alive and kicking at 59! rock on jimmy!
