Fly from Central FL to Key West

In making plans for MOTM 2006, Mr. Topless noted that 16 hours of our precious time off would be spent in the car.
I will be the first one to tell you the drive from Homestead to KW should be on a top ten list of things to do list.... however, when faced with time restraints, a 1 hour flight might be the way to go.
So we searched the Internet and found that fares from Tampa or Orlando were OUTRAGEOUS. Then we started thinking about a charter flight.... and before we go any further, I thought I would throw it out to my phrends on BN.
So here are a few questions:
Do you have any interest in flying to and from KW from central FL for MOTM 2006?
How much would you be willing to spend for the flight?
When would you want to travel?
If there is no interest.... no worries... but maybe many of our in the know aviation buffs will have some suggestions.....

Not flying and a little longer but there is a boat out of Ft Myers Beach that runs twice daily to KW, I think it's still there. Maybe fly into RSW, (Ft Myers) and ride the boat. It's about a 4 hour trip, if I remember correctly.

I just took that ferry over St Patricks Day weekend. If you book in advance I think it's $79 and a lot more pleasant that the tiny crammed plane I took from Tampa the last time I went. There's a bar on board and slot machines (didn't try those but the bar opened as soon as the boat got underway as I recall) It took about 4 hours.

I'm thinking seriously about that route. I looked into it earlier this year and it was once daily from Ft Meyers Beach and once daily from Marco Island. Once in a while it will get cancelled for weather, and if it runs and is rough, I've heard some will struggle with sea sickness. I love boat rides though...so I really like the idea.

One of my friends has seasickness issues but she took some Bonine and she was fine - plus she didn't spend much time in the cabins where it was a little bit stuffy due to all the people. Although it was a pretty calm picture perfect day - I imagine in Nov there'd be more of a chance for rough seas. The best part was that the St P's day party started on the way down, so it wasn't really a waste of the time in that sense either!

Actually it docks closer to Turtle Kralls but CR is a short walk along the boardwalk and there are several drinking & eating establishments along the way! I can't wait to do it again.

I figure that same thing may happen on the boat re. the start of MOTM.

And, if a hurricane keeps the boat from sailing (I sure hope not) there probably won't be much of a party in KW anyway.
Someone also told be to look for coupons or discounts for the boat...that there's always some deal available to avoid paying full price.
BTW, here's the ferry website:

The shuttle is a nice alternative... and one we may consider.... Does anyone know how much stuff they let you bring on board? For MOTM we need 3 days of drinking provisions!! Oh and clothes too....

I can't imagine it would be that different from what you can take on a commuter flight. Check out the website I'd posted above.
