Obviously I don't expect anyone to feel bad for them ( nor should you) but we have so many injuries that we don't even have the replacement players to be competitive right now. Thank god it's only May...
you do realize that the payroll for those Yankee players on the DL right now is more than 37 million dollars... more than twice the Devil Rays entire payroll. Yanks can't use injuries as an excuse.
Having 37 million dollars on the DL is excuse enough but again like I said I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for them. Injuries happen, it's part of the game. If they can't overcome then when it's all said and done then it will be a disapointing season.
Pavano accounts for $10m of that $37M and you can make a strong case that him being hurt helps the Yankess.. he is not a good pitcher.
The only every day players that have lost are Shefield and Matsui and Shef will be back. The Red Sox have played almost the whole season without their starting center fielder and #5 starter.
Their problem is bad front office management, bad signings and bad trades, if you spend that much on a team and you don't have adequate backup players you get what you deserve. ARod, Jeter and Giambi combine to take up $64,709,298 of the Yankees payroll of $194,663,079 . Those three players make more combined than 12 other teams entire payroll.
Minnesota Twins $ 63,396,006
Washington Nationals $ 63,143,000
Oakland Athletics $ 62,243,079
Cincinnati Reds $ 60,909,519
Arizona Diamondbacks $ 59,684,226
Milwaukee Brewers $ 57,568,333
Cleveland Indians $ 56,031,500
Kansas City Royals $ 47,294,000
Pittsburgh Pirates $ 46,717,750
Colorado Rockies $ 41,233,000
Tampa Bay Devil Rays $ 35,417,967
Florida Marlins $ 14,998,500
The Red Sox Payroll is $ 120,099,824, they only have 3 players making more than $10M (The Yankees have 10) and when Shefield comes back tonight none of those 10 will be on the DL.
Blame Cashman and Blame Steinbrenner.
I am smart enough to know the Yankees are not dead yet, of course they will still be there at the end of the season contending one way or another. I just think this is the most trouble they have been in in the last 10 years.
