What time do you normally get there to camp out, what do you bring besides boat drinks(beach chairs, blankets, sleeping bags etc...)? The last time I went up there to see Jimmy the line was running around the block, we got there around 5ish.

So who is going to this? the camping idea has been nixed but I am going to go early in the AM. I don't care if I'm not close ( i'm tall, I can see over people like I did last time).

I've decided to nix this one... HG's main squeeze has gotten tickets to see DMB at saratoga and I'm gonna save my vacation day and use it for that weekend.....
Plus I'll be seeing Jimmy in a few short weeks in Alpine anyway!!!
I'll be watching though!!!

I'll be there around 5, I'll talk to the guy at the front of the line and explain that I missed out on front row seats in Camden and Mohegan and would appreciate letting me butt

how could he possibly say no

So much for trying to get in the VIP section. I hadn't called the firm's librarian to see if her friend could get me in but I just saw her walking down the hall. She said the people in the VIP section were told to get there by 5:00AM.

I went to the TODAY Show concert in 2004. It was a good time, but long day. The plaza was very crowded. If I do go this year I'm driving up from Maryland overnight and getting in line as soon as I get there. Should be a good time...
Not sure how I feel about the weather report though.

For anyone thinking of coming from out of town, there's some construction in Rockefeller Plaza in front of 30 Rock, just across the street from the Today Show. They started Monday afternoon and I don't know what they're building but if they aren't finished by Friday there will be a lot less space for people to stand for the concert. It's always crowded when Buffett's on, it will be worse this year.

Good looking out, thanks for the heads up.

Even though I'll be in Manhattan, I can't bring myself to get out of bed that early to stand in the crowds... I know I sound like a bad parrothead, but I'm waitin' for Jones Beach!!

I went twice, the last time in 2001, that year we couldn't even get on the same block, and whenever a truck went by, it blocked out the sound. We never actually saw him from where we were.
In 1999, it was on Memorial Day Friday, as this one is, the crowds weren't as bad, in part I think to the holiday weekend.
It's too far and too much trouble for only 4 songs, considering how long and far the trip would be.

I went downstairs and asked one of the Rockefeller Center security guys what they're building in the Plaza. He said when Katie Couric leaves, NBC is going to redesign the Today Show studio so they're building a temporary outdoor studio. It's enclosed so it will block the view of the stage for anyone who stands across the street for the Friday concerts. Looks like I'll be staying upstairs tomorrow and looking for an empty office on the south side of the building so I can open the window and listen from up here.

You can see the 2 min. promo the Today show aired this morning (all about Parrotheads!) on the show's website.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/
then click the
Parrotheads invade the Plaza link
It didn't work for me with Firefox, had to open IE to view.
