where would you go?

Hubby and I recently got bumped from a flight, so in compensation, the airline gave us two free roundtrip tickets that we can use anywhere in the continental U.S. So now we're trying to decide someplace fun we can go with them. Has to be within the 48 states--so unfortunately, Alaska and Hawaii are out, but still--lots of options.
Our only qualification is it can't be some place we can drive to in a day....we want it to be some where we would not normally be able to go to. We're in Upstate S.C., so that rules out a lot of the SE, except the bottom of FL. Just looking for some ideas (and we do have a few already, including L.A. and Vegas)...but I thought I'd ask, where would YOU go?

Hmmm tough call.... but I would have to figure we would use it for a short weekend trip w/o feeling quilty.... like fly to NY or LA or Chicago for the long weekend just to sightsee or shop.... or a concert

My first thought was Vegas, but flights to Vegas are fairly cheap anymore, so that wouldn't be using the free ticket to its fullest
Fly to Miami and take a flight or boat over to the Bahamas...
If I had a "free" ticket, I'd probably use it to go somewhere I'd always wanted to go, but wouldn't necessarily pay to fly there... Someplace like Seattle or Baltimore...

These are all great ideas! Definitely food for thought. Funny....I hadn't even though about using the tix to go to a show....probably b/c I don't have tix to any shows.
My other thought was using the tix to go to MOTM, but I doubt my non-PH hubby would be up for that.

Chicago, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, or Boise.

well, you could come down without him.. it'd be a bonding experience between a man and his child..

True, but then we'd have one more free ticket to use. Maybe I could let him use it to go wherever he wants to go. No one ever said we had to use the tickets *together.* Hmmmmm.....

Don't go to New York your head will spin everything is moving so fast. Go to Key West for a couple of days then up to a resort in Marathon by the 7 Mile Bridge. How about Sanabel Island of the Coast of Fort Meyers? Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket. (I am the man from Nantucket)

Do it! Do it! Do it!
Leave the "hubby problem" to the rest of us.
Besides, there's plenty for him to do in the area
without having to be involved with the event at all.

Actually just got back from NYC--that was where we were flying to when we got bumped and then got the free tix. Had a great time, but you're right....too fast up there. Like to visit, wouldn't wanna live there.
OK....my new mission is to convince him for Key West. But I think he has his sights set on Cali. b/c neither of us has ever been there before.

One caveat with those- they use the same pool of tickets that frequent flier miles use- you can pretty much forget about getting a free flight to Vegas if you're not booking forever in advance (voice of experience here).
But if you've never been to California, you should go. Just don't go to SanFran and expect it to be warm, especially in summer (Death Valley heats up, sucks the cool air off the Pacific, and it settles in parts of the city).

Yah, it might be gorgeous in December but miserable in May.
SF is a good place to visit in the off-season.
(And good eats, too.)
